Finalcut pro (Mac)

VdubMod
Ulead Studio

I'm assuming the file is an AVI?

What's the file extension?

You can use GSpot to find out exactly what kind of file you have.

Most the programs I listed above handle all major video types anyway.

VDubMod is freeware and can be downloaded from this site (link):

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...rtualdubmod.cfm

It is very efficient for both editing simple cuts and processing. I like to use it for trimming down large AVI's then import the smaller file to an NLE program if more sophisticated editing is needed the most appealing feature to me is the "Direct Stream Copy" mode, fast and lossless! :)

FYI: VirtualDubMod aka VDuBMod (or VDM) is a Modified version of VirtualDub, the main modification feature being support for a wider range of video types.
