DVD Shrink 3.2 should help this. Most movies that are burned to your HDD will show up over 7 GB. DVD Shrink is designed to compress this to fit on a 4.7GB DVD. If the movie has already been copied to your HDD, select Open Files in Shrink, find the folder and highlight the VIDEO_TS folder. Once Shrink analysis is finished, you can edit it how ever you want (menus, extras) by going under Re-Author...or you can burn the entire movie with the Back-Up feature. Shrink will compress automatically to fit on your 4.7GB DVD (Note: the higher percentage of compression, the less quality).
I don't know if this was the type of answer you were looking for. If it was, your welcome. If it wasn't, sorry. Good Luck!

jamzchaos,
FFsp42 gave you a very good answer but you will also need a ripper if you do not have one to rip the DVD to HD. Shrink has not been updated is 3 years and can not do the newer encryptions so that is why you need to rip the DVD to HD first and then use Shrink to compress.

You can use Ripit4Me or DVDFAB Decrypter (both free) or you could use AnyDVD ( 21 day free trial) but it costs $$. The guides are below:
