I`ve purchased a pioneer 106d & can`t achieve 4x write.The first discs I tried were Bulkpaq orange 4x and it wrote at 1x
The second type I have tried is Ritek Clone 4x as advised by ORIPHUS in a previous thread.It did improve the speed as it wrote a dvd in about 30mins (2x)I`m using record now max ver.4.5 and I`ve tried enabling DMA.
Any ideas?

The clone 4x should write faster than that! Have you go the settings as write at max in Record Now Deluxe. I have seen a few similar problems with the Pioneer DVR106 with 4x writing capabilities. Lets hope the firmware update will solve that problem.

Yes oriphus I`ve got all the settings at max.IT recognises it as a 4x write but after initialising the disc the time shots up from 15 mins. to 26mins.

Check for a Pioneer DVR106 firmware update. Ill ask Herbsman if he knows where to get one. See if that can sort you out. Herbsman knows it all when it comes to Firmware - dont you my son lol

Ouch
I got the 106D yesterday.
I upgraded the firmware to 1.06.
I have had no problems yet with Bulkpaq Orange. What is this GRADIUS UPDATE you talk of?? (I'm a newbie) Will I be able to use it now I've upgraded to 1.06??

Cheers

The RPC1* firmware will probably be done soon by Gradius...

You can check back daily here : http://forum.rpc1.org/index.php

* RPC1 being an unlock on the region count of your burner as in England (or U.K) they are sold to you as an RPC2 unit. 5 Region changes then it's locked !;-(

[If you have a DVD-Rom also you can just RPC1 that instead]

There is no RPC 1 Firmware upgradew for the Pioneer there? There is a DVD 106, which is different to the DVDR106. One being a writer, the other not. It will be listed there when it becomes available.

Hi

i seem to read a lot of posts about people buying media and it doesn't work. Clearly a lot of people on this forum have the pioneeer 106 drive and was wondering which media they have found to be good at 4x.

The company that i work for can supply the Datawrite (red and yellow top) and the bulkpaq orange for about £15 for 25. However there seems to be many people who say that they are really rubish. I would really appreciate any help from anyone who has had experience with these media.

Thanks

Chris

Hi
I'm on my first pack of Bulkpaq Orange.
Using TMPGenc DVD author and Record Now DX I have created 25 DVDs so far.
They all play fine in every standalone I have tried, also in the Playstation 2.
I haven't had them long the only issue is whether over time they start to have read issues.
At the moment i'm 100% happy with them.

Hi chris, I find the bulkpaq Orange to be average at best, the Datawrite Red's to be useless and the yellows to work ok on newer players. Also, i find with th mentioned three discs a biger chance of chapter freezing (pausing between chapters for lengths) and a chance that going into fast forward or rewind mode ay mean and open/colse action. Why doesnt your company supply any of the better Riteks?

Hi

they used to supply better ones (riteks in some form i think) but people were still buying the cheeper ones so they dont bother anymore.

Anyway i have my drive now and i managed to get hold of a few bulkpaq orange and so far i have used 3 and all are perfect.

The serial number on these disks is 4XB... which i have heard are the better ones (better than what i dont know). has anyone more info about this?

thanks

chris

Approximate times for different speeds;

X4 = 15 mins
X2 = 30 mins
X1 = 60 mins

Hi
Word of warning about Bulkpaq Orange.
I burnt 30 all fine then suddenly I had 6 coasters all in a row.
Since then I've tried copying some of the successful burns and they havent read properly for copying. Although they do still play in standalones and PC.
I've now changed to Datasafe ritek G04.
A few quid more but i feel more secure now.

just thought id mention this regerding write speeds..in Nero the write speed is determined by the dynamic speed of the drive..theres a fix available from the site so that Nero uses the firmware of the drive to determine the write speed...the write speeds of the 106d seem to be 2.4X and 4X so burning 1or2X media will always result in a 1X burn..i only found this out today so i havnt tried 4X media yet..ill keep you posted
