I just purchased the pioneer dvr-106d and want to back up some music videos. First I extracted the selected videos to my hard drive using smartripper (no problems here) - now when I try to change the names of the files from vts_01_1 to whatever the video is, I get an error message in nero when I try and add that track. ("no compatible file found")
Do I need to use any other programs before I try and burn these vob files?

I have dvd discs with 40-50 music videos on each disc...in smartstripper i can extract only the videos (cahpters) that i want (to make a best of dvd)...then in order to keep track of which VOB file is which video I tried to rename the file (which does not seem to work)...after I get this sorted out, I will need to put these files into Nero (each as a seperate chapter) and burn them onto a dvd disc...any help would be great!

Ok, that's a good start, but the files should not be renamed (DVDs must have very specific file names and file structures), and cannot be directly fed back into Nero.

Instead, you have to author a new DVD. Use a program called TMPGEnc DVD Author. Follow the guide at:

Import the videos one by one, and then label them (with song titles) in the menu section. You will then be able to select the videos by title from a menu that will come up when the DVD loads.

Thanks for the help Yuriv...but I am having problems at step 3 in the guide...where you are to select "Add DVD Video" - I get an error saying "file can not be opened"...in order to access my videos I have to select "Add File" instead of "Add DVD Video" and under "types of files" select "all files(*.*)"...this lets me work with the files, will this be a problem later on?
Also...I notice I can only get around 20 videos to fit on the 4.7GB. In order to get around 40 videos, can I use DVD Squeeze (like the guide suggests) BUT - I do not want to jeopardize the quality of audio or video, can this be done?

That shouldnt a be a problem. Put everything together and let TMPGEnc DVD Author do the work to create the necessary files. You can then load it into DVD Shrink to compress it to fit on disc. Get a user guide for DVD Shrink in my signature below:

Thanks for the help guys! Only one problem...A couple of the video tracks "stutter" when they play, the audio plays fine but the video is off...any ideas how this can be fixed??? Out of 25 videos only 2 or 3 are off...the rest play fine.
