Smartmovie question,can't play mkv file

when i tried to add mkv ,smartmovie was unable to load its file, it says get codec.
Then i got mkv codec from this site http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Matroska_Pack.htm

but still didn't work in smartmovie , only accept AVI.
how to get smartmovie works with mkv?
