i have tested yellow datawrite 2x and work perfect with nero 5.5 (dvd plugin installed)
i tried infiniti 4x and it spat 8 out all failures. (cost 40 quid aswell)
i tested reddy orange bulkpaq 4x and this is my problem

with nero it says some sort of test error when i try to burn, i changed the settings to dvd ufo and dragged the video_ts and audio_ts over and it burned. but looks like only 2x (disks r 4x)
checked the dma setting in control panel and looks ok in there,
my settings for the dru500ax is secondary master,

any help or testing i can do, settings to check etc ???????
please explain how to do it clearly..

by the way the firmware is f. it was already done when i bought the drive.

cheers

Hi!
I have just recently changed burner to a pioneer from a DRU-500a. In my experience the sony sucks at 4* ( atleast -r) Tried different medias lite princo, ritek G04 none of them workt in 4* for me. The 2* burns was rock solid and i didnt have a coaster with it but it is sad when you have payed for 4* media.I guess you could try with more expensive media like verbatim for 4* burns but ritek G04 works well in 2* with the DRU 500. Others like Datawrite red ( princo) pruduced only coasters.

Hate to say this but maybe you should have got the Pioneer 105 - not one coaster yet at 4x.

after checking loads of config stuff i went to town on my system, cleaned it all up removed cables and drives so i ended up with the dru on a primary with 80 pin cable.

changed from Nero to roxio, ctrl alt del ( while burning the cpu usage was around 10% and below.
i read somewhere this is what it should be, however the selected burning was 4x and actual was 2
this was with bulkpaq orange,
i think i will buy a expensive brand so i know its media trouble.

Your processor usage really depends on the system and the speed of burning. My is commonly around 12-14% for burning at 4x. I have a P4 2.53 with 768MB DDRRAM
