i bought this monitor for my pc http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824112006

if i buy a dvi cable for my 360 what kind of quality and resolution will i get? they actually added "hd ready" on next gen of this monitor.

you can get a DVI for your xbox you can get a VGA and you can run it at almost any resolution there is

The moniter is a HD moniter... I would buy the Microsoft VGA cables and use those... they don't ofer DVI or NDMI with the 360 yet!

awesome thanks for the help guys! i think i'll buy the microsoft cables and use my vga->dvi adapter and hook it up to the monitor asap. one more quickie, so on games like dead rising and lost planet that have really small text that is unreadable on standard def monitors i won't have any problem on mine being as that it can display resolutions up to 1680 x 1050? is that correct? thanks again guys

Why would you do that? I would go VGA straughgt threw with your adapter you will lose singnal!

yeah and if you use your dvi from your computer then you dont need a VGA switch like everyone always has to get and then complain about the prices, just use a DVI from your computer and use VGA from the xbox, unless you dont have a video card then you are kinda stuck, you will need to get a switch or get used to turning everything on and off a lot

oh yeah also, does anybody know what quality resolution that would be equal to? i.e. 1680 x 1050 = 1080i or 1080p or 720i or 720p? i may not be asking the question right but i hope you understand what i'm trying to say :)

most LCD moniters are atleast 720p if not 1080p.,.. if you have it use 1080p if not 720p!

720i/p is both 1024*768 in pixel resolution. 1080i/p is 1920*1080

This should also answer why 1080i is better than 720p. Even though the signal is interlaced (which of course is not ideal) it still has a higher pixel count. More pixels=more detail. Of course, you have to have a 1080p TV or monitor than can support 1920*1080 resolution before you can tell a difference between 720p and 1080i. If you have a 720p TV or monitor (1024*768 resolution) and it does 1080i, it's not the "whole picture" because it simply doesn't have the pixels to display a uncompressed 1080i signal. The TV squeezes the 1080 signal to fit the max resolution of your TV (some tv's have 1377 or someshit like that * 768 resolution)

If I confused anyone, I'm sorry but that's the best I can explain the process.
