My 2 cents on my Wasabi mod.
Do not try soildering unless you have skills.
This requires very small beads of soilder.
After opening up wii & seeing the size of the pins that needed soildered, I decided to have mine modded by an expert.
Cost me $50 plus shipping wii to & from. (approx $20) = $75
chicagomodz.net
works great! check'em out
I have no affiliation with them expect they modded my wii.
Hope this helps someone

Get a pro to do it - It's not worth the heartbreak if you slip up when doing it yourself.

Thanks for the quick responses to previous posts, now i will give you a synopsis on my current situation on choosing a mod wii:

Background info:
My Wii is three weeks old
I WANT TO PLAY BACKEDUP GAMES
I am some what crappy at soldering
My Version of wii from here
Quote:
Your Drive is most likely GC2-D2C
Your drive pins are most likely cut

Now that we're both caught up I dont know which mod to get.
I am confused. I read on one forum and it says let's say mod chip "X" is a good chip and then i search around some more and find that poeple say its bad on another forum and mod chip "B" is better. this happens with every chip i look at. so I've come to the conlusion of (I hope) my final 2 choices.

choice 1. Buy the "completely solderless D2C Pro from here
but let me get this straight: all i have to do (in a simplified version) is pop open my wii, pop this on the D2C, put the case back together and boom i will be able to play my backup games? It seems to easy?

choice 2. I do what geekypc(a couple of posts above) did and find a place like chicagomodz.net to install a d2pro, argon, or wasabi (WHICH i still dont know which one to decide on between the 3 cuz i dont know the difference)

Ohh and correct me if im wrong if those aren't compatible with my wii

So which Choice do I go with?!?!

P.S. I read that you could use the USB Gecko to backup your games and i was wondering if i could do this and if so, which mod

and to that, thanks for the help

Ok so, I was posting in the WiiKey thread here. I bought a WiiKey for my Wii and attempted to install it. I kinda failed, though I didn't break the system in the process. However I still would like to mod my Wii. I am currently considering two things:

Wasabi
Wlip

I have a pre D2C (not sure on exact serial number), no cut legs, and a (I think) good WiiKey here.
Basically, is the Wlip reliable? Or should I get a Wasabi and be sure about about it?
Or perhaps a totally different chip?
Advice? Thanks.

my wasabi.
I went with the wasabi because of the backup feature.
Only problems I have had, was with a few games(disk read errors), but I reburned &/or used wiiblocker in combination to fix those issues.
All working good.

bought modchip -> modchipcentral.com -> wasabi $55 + shipping
had installed -> chicagomodz.net -> $50 + shipping wii (both ways)

approx $150 gets you 1 working modded wii

that clip your talking about approx $15-30

The only reason I didn't take the wiikey route was because I was reading forums with people having issues with some games.

Oh man the Wlip costs 30 Euros and 31 Euros to ship from the official site in Spain. Is there any other site that sells Wlip? I'm so not paying that much money for it.

I had an Argon fitted professionally in the UK - worked well for 4 days then wouldn't read a thing!! Not even originals.
Their website has many users telling of similar things. I only got it because it was supposed to be updateable and a good chip and was more expensive. It is looking to be a bad choice and kinda wished I had just gone for the apparently more stable, cheaper and reliable D2Key instead!!

Hey guys, its been awhile since ive messed with my Wii, but anyways, i bought my wii when it first came out, and i wire modded it with the WiiD chip. Seeing that they kind of just left there customers out in the blue, i recently took out the wiid chip. Im currently looking for a mod chip to buy that can play the latest games (mario cart, smash bros) will the Wiikey work? let me know. Thanks guys!

Hello,

I recently purchased an older (used) wii that is modded with a modchip that I haven't ID'd yet.

2 questions:

a)- How can I tell what modchip is installed in my ntsc(u) wii?

b)- Also, if I wanted to upgrade the modchip in my wii (I imagine its over a year old, and from what I've read on AD so far, the chips have progressed quite a bit), what would be the best currently available chip for a wii with a GC2-D2B Drive Chip whose drive pins are most likely not cut (from wiitracker's info)?

Thanks...

I'm a newbie so please bare with me!
I have a console which I believe is a D2C. I bought it 2-3 weeks ago.
Anyway I want to mod it using a modchip and a wii-clip to avoid soldering on the chip and damaging anything. And most of all, if something happens I can try to pretend that the console is virgin when I take it back in for a repair by removing the clip and using very good acting skills. :P

Anyway I searched a little bit and If anyone can shed some light here:
Besides the wasabi, d2cKey and d2cPro what other modchips are compatible with a D2C wii?
I read comments hear that the wasabi is the best and on other sites I read that the w2cPro is made by the same company that makes the wii key and that its really stable.

I want a solution with as less soldering a possible. I'm good with soldering since I did unlock & fix a couple of iphones but I just want to avoid if I can.
I know the wasabi needs an wire to connect to an F place on the wii board. Its not on a chip that is hard to solder so if you guys suggest the wasabi I will consider it.

Does anyone know a site or can post a chart with d2c compatible modchips and their advantages-disadvantages?
And how many extra wires does each require to be soldered on the console if I use a wii-clip?

Edit: I just read on wikipedia that some recent d2c wiis can not be modchiped yet. Is it true or just an inaccuracy?

And a little further research i did here I found that the infectus2 or argon are considered the best solution?

ok I just installed my wiikey but I dont know if I did it right. All I have is the chip, so do I just start it up and it should work or do I need to download something on a disk? Plus you of the soldering points- it kinda got burnt up so the solder wont stick on it. If I get the wire to connect to the wii board will it still work?

me1928 - yes if you want to risk blowing up your console and burning your house down carry on - lol!!! I am a newbie like you but even I try a bit harder! You have answered yr own question - you have bodged the install - it isn't even connected do you seriously expect it to work? I think you may have written yr Wii off - congratulations.

WHATEVER YOU READ ON HERE - AVOID ARGON CHIPS AT ALL COSTS!! They market the update "feature" - the problem is the chip doesn't work in the first place. Professional installs x 2 still not working = Very odd!! See the problems on Infectus own forum. It is a major con - go for something more proven and reliable. AVOID THE ARGON CHIP - IGNORE AT YOUR PERIL.

i STILL have not decided what chip to get. i almost bought an argon, but then bad reviews started popping up....although there are good reviews too. i think im going to wait until a wii clip comes out for the new d2pro9, and go with that clip/chip combo.

MY WII WORKS PERFECTLY! Get off my back. Yea, I'm fully aware that in its current state I highly doubt the wiikey part will work but I need to be able to test it to find out! Even if my wiikey is broken, I'll just get a new one but I need to know what I need to do after I get it soldered in. I've stated it before but when I tell people I'm a noob at this, I mean I dont know what I'm doing and that's why I come here. To get some help, not be criticized and rediculed!
Now, what do I need to do after I install it?

me - instead of whinging why don't you do some more research on the net and on this site. There is plenty of info and it sounds as if you haven't got a clue what you are doing. You haven't even installed your chip so why ask pointless questions? I thought this forum was meant to be helping people choose what chips to use. If the chip isn't installed what's the point in trying to find out what may have to be done when it is!!!
Shell out some money and get a pro to do it - you are too much of a buffoon I am surprised you can even turn your Wii on!! LOL

All chips will have to be soldered in - not a job for a beginner. The points are VERY small and you will need a very steady hand and good with solder. I reccommend a professional to do this. Once the Wii is opened the warranty is void. The Argon is a BAD chip - look at their own forum for confirmation of this.
The DC2Key is from the makers of Wiikey which is proven. D2Pro is a clone of this.
