Get the clip and chip if you are not good at modding it yourself. The D2Ckey is a reliable chip if you decide to go with the board and chip combo but then you will have an extra d2c2 board laying around. Make sure you buy from a reputable site and you are set.

Your friend in nam is not lying. She has a modded PS2, and the modder was generous enough to relabel the PS2 to PS3.
Then the pirate selling games relabeled Assassins Creed 1 and called it Assassins Creed 2. This is called marketing.
Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

KingJude,
Can you say where you purchased this item? I like hearing of good dealings with vendors and maybe it will be the same for me. I believe I have the d2c2 chip as my Wii is new.

Ok, man there's a lot of info in this thread and I'm trying to read recent stuff so it pertains to the Wii we just got recently. I'm assuming it's going to be the D2C2 drive or what ever they call it.
I've chipped systems in the past and have been out of the scene but I'm very comfortable with the soldering iron so that wouldn't be a problem for me doing it manually.
It looks like maybe the D2Pro would be best? I'm looking for the greatest and the latest and one that will continue to be undebatable and compatible in the future.
It's worth it to me to backup my games because my kids tear discs apart like no one's business. I hate to use the term but it seems like they treat them like frisbees.
Would my assumption on the chip be good? I also live in Hawaii and I really don't want to send my system out to anyone. I'd rather do it for myself as I may be helping my friend out with theirs also cause I'm the only one with any soldering skills.

wii clip doesnt need to be soldered... i bought the combo where chip and clip already soldered.. and all i did was open wii... clip on the mod chip to the motherboard of wii... close it up and thats it.. works instantly.... but u might solder the clip to the modchip first.. and the d2pro9 mod is what i got.. and u might have the d2c2 wii..

So the D2PRO is the best then? Anyone have a good suggestion on where to buy in the US? I haven't purchased for a while and I don't want to get ripped off.

I have a question, that I cannot find the answer to anywhere.

If I have a cut chip (3 legs are cut)

Will the wii clip still work without soldering those three pins?

I just ordered a Wii install from Modchipcentral for $150. I'm not dicking around. I want the mod done correctly and in my country USA. Seems more of you are asking questions and not receiving any answers. What good is this forum then? I'll at least post my findings when I get my console back in a week. I'm a Wii noob too.

By the way for those of you who are asking good luck buying a D2Pro9 chip from the US. You will have to buy it from Canada at best.

Don't buy the clip on chips. If they ever get loose they will not work and will most likely fry your Wii. Get one soldered. Enough said so no more asking.

I just want to confirm this guys. I'm getting the Wasabi 2 with V5Wiiclip and from this retailer site, I selected the Soldered on option for an extra $5. On the site it says you have to Solder one wire "as shown here" but do I have to do that if I selected Solder on option?

Here is the webpage for the wasabi http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/Wasa...iver-p-133.html

I have been reading some more, and my last post is probably a stupid question, but I don't see how to edit it. Anyway, I should be able to just clip it in, but now I am a little worried about it coming loose and frying my wii. Anyway I think I also have a chance to mess up my wii by soldering wires since I am inexperienced with that, so I will just stick with the clip on version and try not to jostle my console or even move it very much at all.

Installers have told me the clip on solution is a bad idea. If it comes loose at all it will fry your Wii. Be warned. Spend the $150 for the chip + install and save yourself the hasstle.

I have already gotten the clip on version, but you say installers have told you the clip on is not reliable? The thing is that the installers are the people who make money if you Don't use the clip on (because then you go to them to do the install for you and give them money) so they may be a biased source of info. Even with that it sounds like I need to be careful with a clip on, I just don't think it will be as dangerous as they make it out to be.

Ya if people start using the clip, then the installers don't have customers to install for. I've heard that the Wii-Clip can come loose, but I doubt that it will fry the Wii!

No its just a fact. Compared to having your chip hard soldered, clips are much more troublesome and unstable. That doesn't mean that lots of people don't have a trouble free experience but theres much more chance for failure compared to having your chip professionally fitted.

Ya I would agree with that! I would prefer to have a chip soldered in then having a clip. I've had both a soldered chip and the Wii-Clip, and I never had problems with either of them.

But if you want to be safe with the Wii-Clip, I put a piece of electrical tape on top of it, then put the cover over that.

You guys. Who else is going to tell you if the clip on is reliable or not your local librarian? Of course they are the most reliable source. Installers have enough work to keep up with. I have had 3 tell me that.

Hey Everyone,

We have just added a solderless wii modchip guide to our wiikeyguide.com site.

The guide gives you a basic breakdown of which Wii solderless mod chip is used on what model and if that chip will be right for your machine. We tried to add as much info to the page as possible so people will know which chips to use in their machine.

So far these solderless solutions have been working really well for people, we have only heard a few reports where people have bent the pins on installation, and this was only a few. There are a lot of videos on Youtube on how to install these little chips, so it's really never been this easy to mod your wii.

Hope the guide is useful for some of you out there.

I'm glad the guide you took credit for really really works for people. What does it do for a Wii though?

I currently run a Wiikey 1.9s on an NTSC-U 3.3 Wii and have been using it to play a DL burned copy of Brawl. Just today, while switching from a VC channel to my disc channel with the Minus button, I immediatly hit "Start", and my Wii froze. I unplugged it and tried to play my burned copy of Brawl, but it won't work at all. I've even tried the following Wiikey recovery steps I got from this board and those do not work either.

Start with wii turned off.
Power on wii.
hit a to go past safety screen
eject any disc in the drive
put in recovery disc
at this point no GC icon should appear and the disc should not read (apart from some disc loading sounds)
press reset on the wii (do not turn it on and off, just hit reset)
go past the safety screen*****
at this point the recovery disc should still be in the drive, not reading (or seems like its not.)
wait 5-7 minutes, i waited 6
TURN THE WII OFF, WAIT A FEW SECODNS FOR THE YELLOW LIGHT, TURN IT BACK ON
go past the safety screen
there should be no GC logo in the disc channel
eject the recovery disc and put in the wiikey 1.9g update disc
The GC logo should appear for this, if not try again.
Update to 1.9g (i used the 1.9g filechopped update available on the wiikey resources stick thread)
Once that is complete, upgate to 1.9s
Send some positive feedback to the wiikey team (via their website) for being so badass
You are now ready to get back to playing SSBB

The item marked with ***** did not happen. I reset the Wii and the Safety screen did not pop up, it went directly back to the menu. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Sounds like Wiikey sucks lately. Get a D2Pro and things are a little better. I'm enjoying the homebrew and wads galore. Only issue I ran into today was running donkey konga 2 (PAL). Seems there isn't a region switch for GC games at this point unless someone knows of one.

That would require unsoldering my Wiikey, something I don't want to risk.
