If I'm using Samsung Pleomax 8x DVD+R, do you think this brand is trustworthy for backing up ps2 games? I have v14 PS2 (slim)

to tell the truth i have not seen anyone using Samsung discs before.
You may want to run a media test on them and then take the media ID from the disc and look them up on a media quality guide.
Samsung use to be classed as medium quality media because they use to use TYG01 dye, i have no idea what they use now.
