I used AnyDVD ripper then Shrink, seems to be working. I had to manually copy over the VideoTS VOB file, but I think that was because I had remove unreferenced and blank cells checked in ripper. Let ya know when it is finished.

As usual both DVDFab Decrypter 3075 and RipIt4Me 1680 ripped THE GRUDGE 2 (UNRATED) flawlessly. It is true that THE GRUDGE 2 (UNRATED) has the latest protections from Sony, but it simply is just another piece of cake.
Here's a basic DVDFab guide
Now insert THE GRUDGE 2 (UNRATED) or your original DVD into burner.
Source: where the original DVD is located
Target: where DVDFab is going to import the finished (ripped files VOB, IFO and BUP under VIDEO_TS folder) once it's completed.
Click Finish and EXIT out.
Hmmm... I don't really like the Video Quality ratio and there are a lot of compressions needed (41.1%) here. Time for me to lanch VobBlanker 2130B5.
Same thing with DVD Shrink -- again, I really need VobBlanker to blank/delete them useless tiny vts, Previews, FBI Warnings and all them junks.
NOTE: This is a modified version only, meaning I've used VobBlanker to edit, delete and blank out all unwanted/unnecessary junks already.
And presto... within less than 5 minutes VobBlanker is done processing, deleting and blanking.
Awesome!! no compressions needed, no transcoding needed, all I need is fire up Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom and burn this straight now.
That's it..!! easy as sippin' on a Corona. Best of luck to all.

Easy for who? If I have to jump through all those hoops I'll just skip the movie entirely. Simple question. Why hasn't AnyDVD allowed me to use Shrink? I thought that's what I paid for.

it seems to have worked.....
I actually forgot to put my blank in so I had to burn from Nero but it is playing on my PC. I will check on my dvd player when my kids are gone.
I ripped it into a folder using AnyDVD Ripper
Opened DVD Shrink and had it use files on the hard drive(took a long time)
Then had to use Nero to burn cuz I forgot to put the blank in. there were 2 errors before it started burning in Nero but I ignored them and it still workid.

Hello all, New here, but I've been reading your tips for a while now.
I use a program called MADZ for converting straight from DVD to IPOD .MP4
For Grudge 2 I used Ripit4me and Fix VTS and that made a copy just fine, but MADZ would not read it, so I replaced the VTS_01_0 info file and VTS_01_0.BUP file that was left in the Video_YS file that it dropped the file in with the origionals that were left in the "OriginalIFOs" folder and it worked just fine.
It took me a good long time to figure this trick out but finally worked until I oped the output file and found that it was looping the fist 6 minutes over and over :( stuck again, cannot get more than 9 minutes of the movie in the file format that I want.
...and yes, I do watch movies on my IPOD, I know I'm strange, so?

Grudge 2 was a tough one. I finally got it though. I had to use AnyDVD 6.1.1.4/ Ripit4me with FixVTS, DVDdecrypter, and then shrink. What a pain. I had to do this for The Guardian and Saw 3 as well. Looks like these are getting tougher.

Hello I riped Grudge 2 last night with AnyDVD 6.1.1.4 and clone dvd2 2.9.0.3 and worked fine. the first time I tried it tried to repair some files but a quit it dit hollywoodland and the flag of our fathers and tried bac Grudge 2 and went perfect all the way.

I tried Alcohol's version of DVD Fab (latest beta version) and shrink and it errored on me. I am using VobBlanker now and then I am going to try to shrink again. If that does not work, I do not know what to do from here.

You can try the non beta version 3.0.7.2
Or here's another great guide by alkohol for RipIt4Me - link.
Then there's AnyDVD & CloneDVD - not free but has a 21 day free trial.
One of these should do the trick for you.

Finally got it to work right with:
AnyDVD
Ripit4me
FixVTS
DVD Decryptor
DVD Shrink
and finally MADZ for the .MP4 conversion.
and yes it took all of them to get MADZ to read the darn thing right.

I can only get this to 50.4 compression.
Here is what I did - following Alkohol's method to a "T".
Ran it through DVDFab Decryp. - (exited out of AnyDVD which was my mistake in the first place).
Then looked at the files in DVD Shrink - they told me 50.4%.
Went to VobBlanker and tried to run the modified files through there to get the 100% like Alkohol showed in a previous post but it gave me the same thing - 50.4%.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Ok I tried ripit4me and fixvts and I am still only getting 50.5% in DVDShrink. What am I doing wrong?
I have gotten it to copy fine with no errors, I just need to get it better then 50% compression or what ever it is called in DVDShrink.

is AnyDVD still running? it gave a message saying that having AnyDVD running can casuse problems, but I kept it running anyway. and I used DVD Decrypter. might try that. it was the only way that I got shrink to work. I had tried DVDfab instead and that did not work.

What I meant "modified" is really that I've already "edited, blanked and deleted" all useless VTS, tiny VTS/PGCs, FBI Warnings, Previews/Trailers, useless advertisements, etc., but I did not showed those "editing, blanking and deleting" steps on the above tutorial (basic guide).
I can tell you which VTS that needed to be "blanked out or deleted" if you want to, below are what I've blanked and deleted out. I even went as far as "deleting" some useless menus as well.

I went ahead and did what Alkohol suggested and blanked out those title sets in VobBlanker. I was wondering for future reference how I would be able to tell which I should keep and which I should delete.

It errored out during the VobBlanker processing. I have no idea what I am doing with this. I followed Alkohol's training too that he sent me a link for but the first Video_VTS file in VOB is already at 0, so I have no idea what to do with this.

I am curious about something. AnyDVD states that AnyDVD will automatically remove the copy protection of a movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive. Since this is the Shrink forum I am wondering why AnyDVD is not allowing certain movies like Saw3 and Grudge2 to be directly used by Shrink.

Mmmm'K here is the skinny on the any/shrink issue:
AnyDVD used to use FixVTS. Now it can not due to licensing issues. I believe that FixVTS does not want to be involved in a pay program as they are a freebie. They are trying to find an answer at slysoft, but so far the answer is "Buy CloneDVD2". Phhhhhhhht.
Rumor has it that AnyDVD will work with Shrink 2.3. I don't know because I don't have that version of shrink. I am trying to find it to test it out.

What year is it again - I swear I have been working on this DVD for forever. Now I am holding a Grudge against this darn movie.
Ok, I think I got it done and this is how I did it.
First I ran System Mechanic on my system to fix any registery problems with all of the errors I have been getting and then:
AnyDVD running in the back ground
Ripit4me (I did the movie and menu only)
FixVTS
DVD Shrink - (I got 100% this time after unchecking the French boxes)
DVD Decrypter to burn to back up disc - (FYI - I did try Img Burn but it errored out on me.)
I played it back on my computer using Media Player selecting a few scenes here and there and it looks good. We will be watching tonight and I will report if there was any errors, otherwise I think this worked.
Thanks "Wagzisgod" for the tip on AnyDVD in the background tip. I think maybe that did it.
Saw 3 will be real soon here, I cant wait for another year gone in which I try to back up these lousy disks (LOL).

Really I don't understand why this did not work without AnyDVD in the background. Most of the time Ripit and Any do NOT play well together. I believe you are advised to shut it off if you have it running in back of ripit.
Ripit updated again too, you should be using version 1.6.9.0.
Did you try just using ripit after the reg clean? Without any in the background?

AnyDVD and clone does this so easy, not taking anything away from the complicated way of doing this, for those that understand it fine go to it, but I did learn something with alcohol's discription, I never knew what target and source was, now I know.
