Yes...I posted previously that this title posed such a problem. It turns out htat it only affects certain drives. My SONY DVD-ROM drive would not read this disc, so I changed drives to my DVD-/+RW which had no trouble reading the disc. I then processed it like "SAW III" "OPEN SEASON" thru RipIt4Me then CloneDVD2 2.9.0.3 My external SONY DRX-810UL burner also had no trouble reading this title. Again try another optical drive.:P

Wow..I am having major problems not only backing mine up but the drive won't even read it. Well it will play with PowerDVD but when I try to turn on AnyDVD the disc just spins around and the AnyDVD icon in my tray fades in and out. This is what I get:

Summary for drive E: (AnyDVD 6.1.0.2)
HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B 0L23
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 2084960 sectors (4072 MBytes)
Total size: 4169920 sectors (8144 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: Running_With_Scissors
Media is CSS protected!

DVD structure appears to be correct.
Found & removed structural copy protection (Arccos, Puppetlock)!

CloneDVD2 will not locate the Video_TS directory. I've tried DVDFab Decrypter only with a feedback message box display "Failed to get DVD information" and i've trird DVD Decrypter to read it only to have this message appear:

ParseVTSM Runtime Exception
File VTS_28_0.IFO

Then the program shuts down.

Any help would be appreciated and i posted here because I of course did not want to start another "Running With Scissors" thread like there were 40 "Saw III" threads. I believe 1 or 2 threads a release should do.

Thanks for the help.

Have either of you sent the ifo files to Slysoft as this movie comes out on Tuesday.

JasonTHX and LynJuly29,
One of you is not up to date w/ AnyDVD so update and try the below.

We are going to let DVDD rip the movie to HD but AnyDVD will decrypt it. Then we will use VobBlanker to correct the structure problems and hopefully this will cure your problems.

D/L DVDDecrypter: http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
D/L VobBlanker: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

1. Open DVDDecrypter. Go to Tools> Settings> General- Make sure there is no check mark next to "Check for structure Protection"
2. Click I/O and make sure "SPTI-Microsoft" a check mark next to it
3. Click CSS and under Cracking Methods make sure a Check mark is next to "None"

4. Make sure AnyDVD is on and open DVDDecrypter and insert the disk into the drive. You should be able to rip the complete DVD to the HD.

5. After the rip to HD Now open VobBlanker and at the top on the left you will see " Input Video Manager" w/ the browse button on the right. Browse to the Folder DVDDecrypter made that was ripped to the HD and keep clicking on it until the ifo file appears. Now VobBlanker will do some quick processing.

6. Make a folder on your Desktop in the name of the Movie
7. In VobBlanker "Output Folder" is the folder you just made on the desktop.

8. On the right hand side you will see "Process All" Click this
9. At the Bottom you will see "Process"- Click it and go get a beer or coffee and wait for the program to do it's magic.

After all is done Open Shrink and point it to the folder on the desktop and you should be able to process it. Since I do not have the movie yet I am guessing that Sony is playing w/ the structure and VobBlanker should straighten it out for you

JasonTHX,
Glad you got it done as the rest of us will have to wait for Tuesday. Could you post the compression level for the main movie as if it is over 15% I'll use DVD-RB instead of CloneDVD, Shrink or Recode.

I only backed up the movie, took off the 3 featurettes and left 4 previews (Premonition, Stranger then Fiction, Half Nelson, Curse of the golden flower) Compression was around 85%.

I was having big problems ripping the entire disk as well, but figured out a way around it. If you have the latest version of RipIt4Me, FixVTS, AnyDVD, and DVD Shrink you can do it. I just started RipIt4Me, but before I clicked wizard mode or 1 click mode I restarted AnyDVD in the background. With that running in the background RipIt4Me, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink were able to run normally. Don't know if this was a fluke but it worked for Grudge 2 as well.

Bonggler,
You should not have had AnyDVD running when you use Ripit4Me as it can cause conflicts w/ the decryption algorthim. Ripit4me can easily do the movie w/o AnyDVD

I used Ripit4me > one click mode > whole disk (took a while with 100 IFOs) > Shrink re author for main movie and 3 features > deep analysis > encoding using Max Smooth adaptive error compensation (also took a while) > burned at 4X using Imgburn on a TY brand single layer blank DVD.

The process took three times as long as a normal backup (over an hour and a half instead of a normal half hour), however, the resulting backup looked as good as the original - great color, no artifacts, no stuttering motion. There's just great software available nowadays!

I'm making the *.iso file right
this minute, having gone through
the ripit4me, fixvts, dvd decryptor
routine for the second time. I went
through it too quickly this afternoon,
and started decrypting before I let
FixVTS throw out all the phoney files.
Well, that didn't work. I came back and
did it again tonight, this time watching
the process more carefully. I let fixvts
do its work, then pushed the button on
FixVTS to go to DVD decryptor. After getting
used to half hour rips with AnyDVD, this is
the pits. But Sony is looking for levels of
difficulty that will drive off all but the
committed. Ripit4me, FixVTS and DVD Decryptor
work one program after another to get you to
the DVD Shrink or Clone DVD stage, then process
uneventfully afterward. I'll let you know whether
there are any glitches in the video itself. I
had to keep a rented video an extra night to
get this thing finished.

The problem was the inability to see the original
disk with DVD Shrink and other rippers.

Incidentally, you don't need the newest version
of FixVTS for this to work. The iso came up and
I'm going to make the DVD now.

Where is AnyDVD when we need them?

Time was when they had this figured out
from the first sale of the disk at Wally
World. Now its over a week later and still
no fix at Slysoft.com.

I read above that someone got an update at
DVD Fab Decrypter. Yes, but did that solve
the inability of the drive to detect Running
With Scissors. I didn't try updating Fab, though
I will do that next time I try.

I have a newfound respect for DVD Decryptor, Ripit4me
and FixTVS as of today. I had a horrible time with
Lords of Dogtown a year and a half ago. This is the
hardest day I've had since then.

I tried to follow Car.Mike's directions. I had already successfully used DVDD to create the files in a folder. I downloaded VobBlanker and tried to run it but I get a message that says "ERROR: Max VTS limit (99) has been reached" - obviously another little cutie from the boys at SONY...

Is there a way to increase the Max number of VTS to be processed? I get this exact same problem on MARIE ANTOINETTE - also from SONY. I will also try to contact Jesus to see if the "99" is a hard max...

Running With Scissors has 103 files. I'm thinking the Vob Blanker has
a limit of 99. Sony is looking for the formula to stop the great mob
that's been using easily obtainable software to rip. Suggest you use Ripit4me in tandem with FixVTS, both freeware, that will lead you to the doorstep of DVD decryptor, which will then allow you use CloneDVD or DVD Shrink. These new tools probably work similarly to what you tried. If you still have the project mostly done, try substituting FixVTS for Vob Blanker. I successfully made a perfect copy of Scissors this way. That is how I discovered there were 103 files in Running With Scissors. Sony probably put that many there in order to undermine some of the standard tools.

Sony got beat up in the public arena by slipping people's PCs mickeys on their CDs. They were sued and now have to pay people for
mucking up their machines. Sony and the whole industry now have another strategy. They pretend people downloading films from the net
are the problem. The real problem for them and the MPAA is the DVDs sold by street vendors around the world and the ability of DVD renters to make copies easily of their products. And they do not want to conduct this war the way the RIAA muddled things Post Napster. Notice
that there is almost nothing written in newspapers or on TV about ripping and selling DVDs on streetcorners. I believe Sony has been
appointed by the Industry to find the magic formula for stopping ripping. I don't think they will be able to stop it completely unless
the government helps them. I don't believe the US and Europe will help them. So they're working feverishly to find the way privately,
out of public view. Running With Scissors is just one of a series of
efforts to find the magic elixir.

jjinrtp,
I suggested VobBlanker before anyone knew there were 100+ files. If it is over the limit then you have to use the Baby Brother FixVTS. So insert FixVTS where VobBlanker is and you are good to go. You can also use Ripit4Me as was suggested

Thanks to both of you for your respective responses - I did read further and have tried FixVTS but I still get the same message from VobBlanker and I looked and still have 99 VTS files in the backup directory so I am not surprised that I still get the message.

jjinrtp,
Just use Ripit4Me in 1 click mode and it will do the movie for you automatically. I also have no idea why you arew having the problems as I have done the movie at least 3-4 different ways using different programs and they all work

Start from scratch then. Use Ripit4me
followed by FixVTS and then DVD Decrypter.
Don't skip any steps. DVD Decrypter should
follow, then DVD Shrink or DVDClone. You
should have a good *.iso at the end.

The latest VobBlanker 2130B6 can handle more than 99 VTS http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/betas/ -- I believe 2130B5 handles that as well. I recalled "SAW 3 UNRATED EDITION" when it first came out and I was using an older version of VobBlanker which it couldn't process 99 VTS, but that has been fixed.
