Hey,

I have a Compaq R4000 laptop and it is just over 1 year old. The cd drive: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N is not working right. Of course i only bought a 1-year warranty and the drive quit working 2 weeks after it ended(no exaggeration). My drive will read installation cd's like: Window's XP, game installations, etc. But the problem is that they will not read anymore CD-R's and CD-RW's. It will not even recognize them. I have uninstalled the driver and rebooted, and it reinstalls it, but the problem still exists. Also have tried updates and nothing. Have any ideas? Thanks

So it reads pressed CDs. Does it read pressed DVDs? Burned DVDs? Will it burn CDs or DVDs? Is it just CDs you've burned it won't read? Have you checked for firmware updates?

What brand of media are you using for burning? What speed are you burning?
