I already know about that forum. I've read thru it and they just talk about the mod chips. I plan on getting one, but it will be useless if I can't backup the wii games.

To backup your games you need a specific DVD drive (or firmware, really..) and you need lots of time. I believe this forum I'm linking to is the best updated site on the Wii Disc Dumper.
http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=51774
From reading the forum posts I linked to, I believe you have two options when the actual dumping is finished. Either you end up with a .wii file, which is a scrambled DVD-image. It needs to be unscrambled by an unscrambler that follows the dumper, same goes for .wod. If you're lucky, the images are in .iso and are ready to be burned to disc with your favorite image burner.
Let us know how it goes!

Great news! Now you can dump you Wii games in 3 hours.. check it out.
Here is my question... they list 3 different dvd burners to buy to make this possible. Does anyone know what the differences are between them? I want to buy one, is one better than the other?

The higher the number the newer model and should have something added from the previous to it.
When I saw LG i was like No wonder it takes 50hours LOL! jokes but those LG drives are pretty Slow at Ripping it averages around 5x after a rip while others around 9-10x or more,I never go for LG drives hopefully they will get more support or firmware for our drives to do it,As i do know my com shop has the latest one for 50au I dont feel like instaling it and certinally not gonna use it for things that dont have must "USE LG drive" on it i'll just wait but 50 hours i a dam long time hopefully the 3 hours is true but 50 hours you need very good ventialted and cooled computer.

I just put Wii Sports into my Mac and it couldn't read the media....what format are the Wii Disks in?....I was hoping the process would be as simple as the PS2 was in terms of just having to make a direct backup with Toast.
But obviously it is not, has anyone actually made a backup yet?
thanks

im sorry to say the format the wii disks are in only read under windows no mac os x support you need a windows machine running Alcohol 120 % they will not burn correctly under Nero because Nero doesn't understand the format Alcohol 120 is the only app that does but another issue has come to mind all the wii backups for some strange reason have locks on them so when you copy them to your computer to burn them you can burn them but you cannot delete the iso afterwards i think this has to do with nintendo keeping track of pirated software but im not sure so be carefull
also on another note has anyone noticed that wii disks are appearing only in PAL iso format and hardly any of them in NTSC so this really leaves a lot of japanese wii owners out in the cold and a lot of u.s gamers as well
the only us NTSC wii iso i have seen is redsteel
and trama center
no others

ok tablet. Here we go again.
Please ignore that last post as it is full garbage. You can burn wii backups with Nero just fine. I do it all the time, and when you are done, you can delete the iso's if you want no problem.
As far as them only being PAL, your probably only getting them from torrents, am I right?
I have all available games in NTSC downloaded, burned, and ready for when my wiinja arives.
Mods can get pissed at me if you want but somebody has to tell this kid to quite down if he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Kafluke,
I agree with your take on Tabletpc...do you have any recommendations on how to go about creating a backup...I'm a Mac user.....did you make your backups directly from the originals?

It appears that the powers who be have finally worked out most of the bugs and have released a program capable of dumping (backing up onto your computer) Wii disks. This is obviously essential for the new mod chips. You can now make a dump your game to your computer when you buy it, burn it to a DVD and play it in your Wii with a mod chip installed. This will allow you to store your precious original disk safely in your safety deposit box or fireproof safe!

have you tried to burn the paradox redsteel iso after you burn the file and then try to remove it even under mac osx if you download the iso the file will not delete i have tried i had to manually go into terminal under mac os x and type in a whole bunch of commands to get it to remove
also on another note have you tried to burn any of the bittorrent files under Nero i have received several errors and yes i have the latest version and the same thing happens
it tells me format unrecognized or trys to burn it and something in the format doesn't want to burn and the burn fails

Please don't listen to TabletPC.
Clearly he hasn't a clue...if such a case happened with files that won;t delete you have been suckered into downloading something malicious.
That aside, if you are looking to back up your Wii games the Rawdump tool mentioned earlier in this thread (available to D/L at wiinewz.com) will do the job, so long as you have one of the compatible DVD drives in your pc.

Matty420, You will most likely not be able to dump wii games on a mac. Sorry. Problem being that you need to use debug features of specific DVD drives to perform the dump, I doubt these drives exist for mac computers (I haven't checked, though).
tabletpc, Surely you can force removal of the file on your mac system? Try reading the manual for rm, or simply try "rm -f FILE". As for it not getting removed on Windows.. Perhaps you need to update your antiviral software and perform a scan, you sound infected.
EDIT: Oh, and make sure the ISO is in fact an ISO and not some scrambled format, tabletpc. Perhaps try mounting it on your mac, before burning it? I'm not sure on the actual burning process on a mac, I do believe cdrtools works on mac, and can burn DVDs. There should be a manual easily available for cdrtools, too.

I here ya. Do you guys ever monitor these posts and check their validity? It seems like there is a lot of rumors and opinions being presented as fact. Especially in this wii forum. And like you said, not just from member but from site news as well.

Why do you need a mod chip to play the copy you burn with Nero? I thought they are saying that the current mod chips don't work.
???????? :(
