The burner I have is a Mad Dog lightscribe 18x triple format. It cost 129.99 at Comp USA but it was 79.99 after rebates.

I'm not giving up yet.

There's a much newer firmware SB03 available for your burner. It appears to be a Samsung burner although packaged as Mad Dog. You can either do a live update or do the update manually.

http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Liveupdate.../fwvercheck.asp

It's possible the update won't work if Mad Dog has messed with the burner. In that case. you'll need to check Mad Dog for an update.

I would limit the burn speed to 4X with this external burner as well.

Also make sure the USB cable is firmly seated and replace if updating the firmware and slowing the burn speed don't resolve your problem.

The timeout error is a communication error that could be caused by several things, including the above.

Well I did update my firmware, changed the speed down to 4x and I came up with the same error. One thing that may be a problem is the power cord that plugs in to the back of the actual burner. It doesn't fit it securely and maybe a suddent move could interrupt a burn.

But I failed trying to burn my own copy of Saving Silverman just for a test.

I shrunk it and converted to ISO with DVD Shrink, ran my trial of Any DVD in the background and use ImgBurn. $x speed like a said with a Verbatim DVD+R blank media.

Hi.

Do you have access to another system where you could test the burner to see if it works there?

Did you try a different USB2 cable?

Can you burn a CD?

Do you have any different media you could try?
