Problem with PS2-Ethernet Adaptor

I've been trying to play MGS3 Subsistence Online, but I can't get the adaptor to work. Whenever I load the game up and hit "Online", it tells me the adaptor isn't connected right.
Here's the order in which I connected it to the internet.
Phone jack > Modem > Wireless Router > Adaptor > PS2
The ethernet adaptor is 10/100, no idea what that means but it'd probably help to know. What exactly am I doing wrong here?
