so at what percent would you REALLY be able to tell a significant sacrifice in picture quality, on a single layer DVD?

for example, FlyBoys is around 70% compressed on a SL DVD+R, i have a 32" LCD tv with component video cables going to my DVD player. would i be able to tell a huge difference from it requiring no compression?

the reason why i ask is, DL discs are significantly more expensive than single layers (even when on sale). opinions?

i normally do just main movies so they seem to not need much on compression. .when adding al the extra then compression gets heavy

flyboys is big, about 7.3 gigs on just movie + menus.

i took out all the unecessary languages and got it to 70% compression exactly on a single layer dvd.

I have an LCD TV also. Any disc I write with 70% compression looks
fine to me. I usually do movie only because I get 100% sometimes.
I have also run one of these on my son's upconverting DVD player.
They work very well with that too. I'm using a Philips DVD player.
You don't need the chapters on it because for the last 5 movies
played it will automatically start where you stopped watching.

Hi ZCS626,

While you probably aren't going to notice any difference there is a loss in quality. Maybe if you were watching that movie on a 60" Digital TV you might notice a differance, but again the average person won't be able to recognize the difference.

Compression is a funny thing when it comes to video because it really isn't compressing at all it is actually removing pieces of video from certain frames. Do yourself a favor and read this it should help you understand a little better about video compression "Video Compression
and if you really want to get smart try this one MPEG-2 Video Compression
