dvd decrypter rip stops at 87%

doing an iso of Xenosaga episode 1. all is going fine then oh ****! It cant get past 87%. And it does the same in Nero.
is this likely because my burner sucks (LG GMA-4020B rebadge) or the disc is broke? it should not be as it is a new disc. im out of ideas :(

Sounds like you either got a bad copy of the game or you need a new burner. Only things it can be.

looks like a scratched or dirty disc. Clean it off as best as you can and give it another shot.

actually he had an ASAPI error which is a different thing then a sector reading error which is what you have.
Usually sector reading errors are due to a dirty or scratched original disc. the copy process gets to a certain point and then hits the scratch or bad sector and freezes up or fails. I have had it happen to me with movies before.

I forgot to say, it is dual-layer disc that I am trying to rip. Would that have any effect on the failure to rip it?

Is your burner capable of reading DL discs, use Nero to tell you. If it does then I would recommend just going out and hiring it to see if you can get it to copy then.
EDIT: After looking around a bit it doesnt seem that your burner can read DVD9 games so that would be your problem.
EDIT2: After reading a few more reviews on your burner some sites say it can read DVD9 and others say it cant, so use Nero to check.

yeah, the fact that it is DVD9 could make a difference depending on the fact that your burner can both read and burn dual layer discs.

Your local video hire store should have a disk polisher and so long as there are no deep scratches on it you might just get away with it other wise it's 50/50 whether the polisher will work,the cost i would guess will be from $5.00 -$10.00
edit: assuming the original can be played in the player without any issues with jittering or screen siezure,it could also be a prob with one of the layers and it may have a corruption

Its the disc but LG drives arent the best just like their 3 phones.
they are ussualy slower then its competitors Phillips,Samsung,Pioneer are the best.

well guys, apparently Nero doesnt know if mine can support DVD-9 discs. I thought dual-layer and DVD-9 are the same.

DVD9 and dual layer are the same thing.
And Sony burners are just ok, i would not call them great. Mine worked great for about 2 years and then just stopped making good copies. Look in the booktypeing feature of DVD Decrypter or IMGburn.
You will get a few brand names that support booktyping. Then look for good burners by that manufacturer.
BenQ is one i really like, i have a DW1655 and it can do dual layer, booktyping and lightscribe. Only cost me about $50 here in the US.
NEC and Pioneer are also suppose to make some good burners.

Hey guys, I'm ultra noob at this but I've been following instructions from www.anders.com on how to rip dvd's using the DVD Decrypter but I'm having the same problem as the guy above except mine stops ripping at 85% and tells me I don't have enough space on my C: disk, which is crap cos the file size I'm tryna burn is around 4.5 million kb's and my free disk space is 6.5 million kb's+. I've attempted to rip dvd's using the same program on different computers and regardless it always stops at 85-91% and tells me there's not enough disk space. I've had the same problem before only to have to give it up. Even as far as 98%. Thought it was a bad disc. I've got another problem if anyone can possibly help. For the past several days when using DVD Decrypter it will only write at 1.3 - 1.4x even using 16x dvd's. It used to write at the 16x speed. Sometimes if I'm using 8x discs it will only write at 2x speed. Does anybody know what might have happened? Thanks.

i'm using brand new samsung 18x burner..
and i got the same problem.. my FF12 stuck at 8%
failed to extract sectors.
the disc also contains no visible scratch.

here's the actual error i get in decrypter.
I tried a disc repair thing and it didnt work. My next option will be to get a new burner.
