@NuckNFuts
If you plan on opening in shink need to rip in full disk mode. If you plan on burning to a dual layer disk it is o.k. to rip in iso mode. If you want to copy without the Jacket folder there is option you uncheck under preferences. To explain when you rip in full disk mode fixvts is run, which cleans up the rip so it will open in shrink, in iso mode fixvts never runs, as there is not a way to run fixvts on iso.

Should I did it as file folder, NOT ISO? for Shrink to read it? Right now, I just burned it to DL -R DVD @ 4x and will see if I can then shrink that as I had to do w/ Monster Housh a few months ago. It also had the same type of extra folders in DVD with software type "Auto Run". How do I copy without the Jacket, Auto Run & Go files? I have the ISO image on HDD, Can it be removed from ISO file?
You should have done the decryption rip in file mode so you could process for the VTS structural errors with FixVTS. Then you wouldn't need virtual drives to view your output. Then you could generate an ISO or whatever as a Shrink output option for burning. Like paschal93, I'd suggest RipIt4Me, in Full DVD, which opens the files in Shrink for you. It does the decryption, cleanup and processing with FixVTS for DVD compliance all from the 1-Click mode. http://www.RipIt4Me.org

BTW, you can open ISOs in Shrink and Shrink has a viewer.

Back to "Running With Scissors"; It copied fine and plays great as a DL copy to DL -R but cannot copy the copy either as it still shows up as having some protection on disc in AnyDVD v6.1.1.4. I redid it all over but using 1 click mode and got a prompt to direct path to FixVts.exe, I just clicked OK and continued to Decryptor but now as File mode. In next step it prompted me to open FixVTS.exe but of corse I didnt know where it was as I only installed the RipIt4Me w/FixVTS included so I figured it should know where it was. I just directed folder to RipIt4Me.exe and I guess it excepted as it now moved to Decryptor as before but when done, it failed to open in Shrink. It ended up opening up and finishing w/ Ner Recode (Nero Ultra v7.1.5) as compressed to 4.74GB single layer DVD+R. What other Compressing software can tighten up as good as DVD Shrink, Recode can't compress as tight.

Oh ya, I noticed that when compressed weather by DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, only the Audio and Video "TS" folders get copied. Just curious. Is this nedded to shrink cause all is left in tact in ISO mode to DL disc.

The Audio_TS is a relic and nothing to be concerned about. I've never seen it used for anything. In fact if you delete an empty Audio_TS nothing happens. I don't pay any attention to it. All the audio and video are in the Video_TS folder. If you were to open an ISO file with WinRAR you would see the Video_TS folder with the IFO, BUP and VOB files. As you may have noticed, when you burn the ISO and open the burned disc you find the Video_TS folder with the files. Except for it being the only supported burn option with some freeware burners, I don't see any difference between using ISO and the file method. When dealing with copy protection the files are best left in Video_TS (file) format till the "cleanup" is done.

update... for what it's worth... i was curious to see what would happen with upcoming sony releases (after the above described issues with "boynton beach" and "running with scissors"). this week i got "marie antoinette" and "half nelson"... both sony releases and my computer could both read them without problem, and back them up without problem using ripit4me. i did not try them on my other computers since i had no problem using my regular computer.

so i wonder if last week's releases were different in some way regarding their protection, or if i just had all three of my computers simultaneously having similar glitches, or wtf?

Yeah surfgeo I think wtf is probably it :)

Funny cause Marie Antoinette had more bad sectors than Running w/ Scissors.
Half Nelson though didn't have the Sony stuff on it even though it is one of their releases. Decided to use Decrypter by it's lonesome then burned w/ Nero.

howzit? aloha. hey, would you mind telling me how you determine what kind or extent of encryption/protection is on a dvd before deciding which software to use? you mentioned just using decrypter after seeing that "half nelson" had no real obstacles. just curious. might save me some time too. mahalo!

Aloha surfgeo
I use AnyDVD. I have it set to show the media info. So once I see what's on it and the file size I go from there.
I still like using the 'oldies' (shrink & decrypter) when I can :)

Not a problem surfgeo :)
(I ran out of Hawaiian words to use - well since I only know 2 - not hard :0)

Pretty neat - insert disc - AnyDVD pops up a window with all the info on it.

I had the exact same issue. I have AnyDVD with DVD Shrink and I put the "Running with Scissors" disc in and it crashed my whole IDE chain. It would not show a disc I could not eject it. I rebooted then I have to run find new hardware it found the drive again and then it would not work with an old movie did not show any discs. Rebooted about 10x times finally got it to work with a disc I copied before. Same issue on my other PC. I do not know what Sony has done but it jammed my system up. I have burned many of the other new Sony discs and thousands of movies overall first time I have seen a problem like this. Going to try DVDFab.

@timf72

sorry to hear that you too were blitzed by the sony demon on that disc. i'm wondering if it was some combination of the sony disc and the AnyDVD software? could sony have put something on there to respond to something in AnyDVD? hmmm? since AnyDVD runs in the background it would be detected immediately by the disc... maybe even prior to the drive recognizing the disc? i doubt it, but i don't know anything about the tech end of stuff...

i hope you get your system back to normal. i too had to do numerous reboots to get things working properly, and it wasn't until the next day that i got two of my computers to successfully backup "scissors" using both dvdfab and ripit4me. WHY it worked, when it hadn't worked previously, is still a mystery... it never did work on my newest dell computer, and i decided it wasn't worth it to mess with it any more.

weird huh? i hope you get it all working shortly... hopefully your computer at some point will recognize the disc without problems and fab and/or ripit4me will do the job... please let us know if you figure out anything about why it was causing the kind of problems it did...

My experience was not that bad in terms of having to restart after the first attempt by my friend but he may have clicked too many times cause he said he needed to reboot. But when I came in I was able to get out of each time by closing AnyDVD and manually ejecting the DVD (this 1st was on A64 x2 set with UATA, XP x64 SP1) I also tried the same on Intel D-950, Plexter SATA, Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x86. I could at least close app and eject to try again.

In the end, had to close AnyDVD and open only RipIt4Me (it will prompt you to close AnyDVD anyways) and rip via DVD Decrypter and shrink with Nero Recode cause DVD Shrink (wich RI4M uses later to compress) still would not load my HDD ISO image or DVD files. Recode would open the DVD as file mode from Decrypter but not the ISO from Virtual drive. If only needing full sized DVD 8Gb then ISO to DL disc is fime, it did that but the copy did the same when loaded when AnyDVD was running.

I got it to work. I downloaded DVDFab and bang worked like a charm. I did notice that after the first try and the drive failure AnyDVD stopped auto loading on start up. Your comments about Sony planting a AnyDVD bomb may have some merit.

I suggested the same to anyone else that has the same issue.

Quetion I am still using DVDShrink anything better out there?

My suggestion is that if you have AnyDVD, keep it. Then get both RipIt4Me and DVDFab Decrypter. They're both free. Then become proficient in the use of all three. None of these programs are 100% all the time. I've got all three for my use. Currently RI4M is my favorite, because the others have been having problems with some of the new titles. They're catching up, but they shouldn't have been so far behind. AnyDVD is still acting up with Shrink on some titles.

Best bet is using Ripit4me and DVD Decrypter. I will also backup the Sony-AnyDVD conspiracy theory as I had the same problems. But Ripit4me worked then used DVDShrink and Nero to burn

I'm gonna do that too from now on. However, DVD Shrink still wont open certain DVDs in either ISO or file folder, so need to use Nero Recode for those. Running With Scissors was one of them. It had to be ripped from RipIt4Me & DVD Decrypter in File mode to compress. For most of the good Sony and Dreamworks, Disney stuff, I just leave in ISO and burn to DL, no compression and they look great on a large LCD monitor.

If the files process from the ISO that's all good. However when they won't, and sometimes they won't, the file mode is preferrable. File gives acess to the files for editing and processing for compliance. With the newer copy protections, it's best to use a program like RipIt4Me (which include DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink) to do the cleanup and processing in one seamless setup. Once the decrypted and cleaned up files are on the hard drive, they can be used with any program.

Now, in some cases I want to be able to keep all the origional disc material but compress to 4.74G. I notices that even in ISO or file mode that the extra folders are not included when allowed to compress in DVD Shrink or Recode. Often, there's room for the extras, just not included. Ie: in Running With Scissors, folders and files; JACKET_P, AUTORUN, DVD_ROM, GO. Is there a setting in Decrypter that is doing this without me knowing? Snakes On a Plane was another that had extra material. I know it's not needed for the movie but some titles like "Garfield 2" have games and DVD ROM interactive features for the kid and just wanted to know how to include these in the compression process.

How many times have I recommended using RipIt4Me in File mode for movies with heavy copy protection? It seems you've ignored that suggestion and I've made it more than once in threads where you were involved (or was it just multiple times in this thread). Well respected addicts who write guides (such as alkohol, and bbmayo) and others tend to agree. It doesn't have to be RipIt4Me necessarily for the decryption, but File mode so the files can be accessed for processing to take care of problems is necessary. Since RipIt4Me does it all in a seamless process in 1-Click mode, it's hard to beat.

If directed at me you missread the question. Sorry for the confusion, but as I mentioned at least twice so far, I am using exactly that (RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink or Nero Recode). The origonal questional again is; Other than ISO to an uncompressed copy, how can I retain the extra files and or folders (in addition to standard VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS) from origional DVD that are used for either PC games or interactive extras and compress them (shrick) to fit 4.7GB disc? Thankx again!
