i wasn't flashing. i had the case opened,working on my overheating problem.i had a game in the drive and powered it on.it spun then made a hard spinning sound(scratching the heck out of my disc)then opened half way and that was it.now it won't open or nothing.if i watch the dashboard every time i hit open/close on my remote it will say it on the tv but the drive won't respond.any suggestions?

nothing like that.thats the weird part.it won't ty to kick on or nothing.i'm thinking of ordering a new drive off ebay.i wonder how hard it is to switch though?

If you never obtained your original firmware off the now dead drive, then you can't swap drives unless you remove the chip off the old drive and make a firmware dump with a Willem programmer.

i have the original fw on a disc.i'm looking around on xboxscene now trying to find out how.

Buy any other drive, doesn't matter if you buy a samsung or hitachi. I can walk you through every step you need.

I have both an MS28 and a Hitachi 0059DJ and I like the hitachi better. Works perfect and never gave me a problem. My Samsung has acted like it was crazy sometimes.

one thing though before i order it.if overheating was the original problem,whats the chance of me buying a new drive and running into the same problem? i put the talismoon fan on but didn't get to test it out.
