Hi: Everytime I insert a DVD that I burned (a movie) I get a message that the disc isn't formatted. It plays fine on my desktop (Dell) but not on my laptop (IBM Thinkpad).

I downloaded AviCodec which showed everything enabled. Then I tried GSpot which showed some missing files, but no advice on where to find them. There were quite a few. It also gave me the message that Windows is unable to read the DVD because its either corrupt or not formatted. I get this with every DVD I insert. HELP PLEASE!!!
I don't know what to do anymore....I even tried all kinds of codec programs including K-Lite Mega Codecs which did nothing.

if the recorded disk isn't being recognized by your laptop it could be because of a low quality media being used and your player on your laptop won't recognize it. or maybe you just need a firmware update on your laptop player to allow it to recognize your burned disk. what is your dvd drive make and model #? what media are you using?

Also most times you will need to finalize the disc on your original burner (where the disc was created) in order for other optical drives to be able to read it. This is assuming you are using RW discs instead of R discs which I am just guessing because of the "disc isn't formatted" error.

Actually I am not sure what the make of my laptop DVD player is - I bought it from e-bay without any kind of manual. I will check it out in device manager. As far as the DVDs, I am using Imation media (made by Phillips) and so far they have worked beautifully on the desktop and on our home DVD palyer and TV. I didn't know about finalizing the burn so I will definitely make sure I do that next time. Thanks.
