Okay, I just picked up a PSP with 2.01 on it. I did not get any games as I was not sure which firmware version to stay away from (I want NCAA 2007). So, where to start? Is there a noob guide anywhere on how to go about modding my psp? Can someone help me out a bit? I am very tech savvy so that isnt a problem, I just dont want to fry this thing by screwing around with it.

well if you're tech savvy you won't have to worry about it. Anyhow there is a 2.01 downgrader but there has been a few reported bugs. I would upgrade to 2.71 and downgrade with the 2.71 easy downgrader (used it personally and its awesome), once at 1.5 you'll prolly want to install 3.03 OE-C (winstaller i made is in my sig). After you have 3.03 OE-C flashed u will be able to run ISO's direct from the XMB, play homebrew, play PSX Games, and a whole lot more.

Thanks a ton. Where do I find a reliable copy of 2.71 to use to upgrade? And does it come with a Windows based upgrader?

You are too awesome. Last question and I will leave you alone. If I upgrade to the custom firmware, go and actually buy a game like NCAA 2007, will it force me to change the firmware or will the custom one be okay?

okay, I downloaded the 2.71 firmware, but I think I may be missing something. What do I need to do to get the EBOOT.pbp file onto my psp?

Install 2.71 then use the downgrader. And there is no game that requires anything higher then 2.81 ATM so it wont tell you to upgrade firmware.

okay, something else not happening right. I ran the downgrader to go back to 1.5, and it says disconnect the USB. It says go to the Photo and then the screen will turn red. This doesnt happen. I rebooted it, still doesnt happen.

keep doing it over and over again until it works. the exploit isn't the most stable and doesn't run every time.
