So, im buying a new slim ps2 tomorrow (hopefully I can get my hands on a silver one), and im wondering which would be the better option to play backup games. I can order swapmagic online for about $30 after shipping, and use that in combination with the tissue and tape method. My other option, is somone locally who will sell and install a duo3 (plus laserfix) for $80.

So, the question is, which would you choose and why?

modchip is better hands down.
and why is because it is less hassle. Just stick in your back up disc and it will load like an original.
No rebuilding
no swapping
they usually work well with cheat discs
If you patch the game with Toxic DL Patcher it should also play dual layer (DVD9) back up games.

Duo 3 is a solid chip, it is a pretty cheap one, surely not the best around, but if all you want is something to play back up games then it will do just fine.
If looking for a higher end chip the Matrix Infinity -green dot or Crystal Chip V2.0 would be a good choice for a few extra dollars.
