I have 2 dvd drives. One is a burner (Lite-ON ,Max. 20xRw). Another one is just a DVD-Rom drive(Read at 24x).

The problem is.....
When I burn a movie into 16x DVD+/-R media, my dvd-rom drive won't recognize it (playback). Although I reduce the writing speed of my burner to 8x or even 4x on 16x DVD+/-R media.
However, it works on my dvd-player (the one that burns with 8x and 4x), but somehow not on my dvd-rom drive.
So I tried different dvd+/-r media, which is 8x DVD+R media. It works on both my dvd-player and dvd-rom drive.

Is there any way to fix the problem? What's wrong with my dvd-rom drive?
Any suggestion?
Since on the market today, 16x DVD+/-R media is everywhere. It's hard to find 8x DVD+/-R media on bestbuy, officemax..etc.

My dvd-rom drive reads 8x DVD+/-R media, but however, it doesn't recognize 16x DVD+/-R media with 16x writing speed (a burnt movie with 16x speed).
It rarely reads 16x DVD+/-R media with 8x or below writing speed.

I don't know what's wrong. It reads 8x DVD+/-R but not 16x even though their reading speed is 24x speed.

Have you tried updating the firmware? Firmware updates help your drive recognize media that has been released after your drive was manufactured.
Both Decrypter and ImgBurn have a neat tool to help you find the firmware.

To check your drive firmware with DVD Decrypter:

Open Decrypter,Select Mode > ISO > Read.

Select the drive you want to check in the "Source" menu.

Click "Tools" > "Drive" and then select "Check for Firmware Updates" at the bottom of the list.

A window will open and tell you what the current firmware is and then automate the search at http://www.rpc1.org . You will need an internet connection.

Edit:
I saw you listed your drive so I went to rpc1 and found it:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2341

The odd thing is that they do not list the firmware you have currently (DS19) as a previous version. Are you sure the firmware you mentioned is for this drive?
That sounds like the firmware I used in My JLMS XJ-HD166S DVD-ROM.

Fastfrank

I don't have a problem with my burner.
The problem is my dvd-rom drive. It doesn't read any dvd+/-R media that is above 8x.

I didn't mention your burner at all. I don't know where you saw that I did. The method I mentioned will let Decrypter check your ROM's firmware.

Thats why I mentioned using "Read" rather than "Write".
From my reply:
Quote:
Open Decrypter,Select Mode > ISO > Read.

Edit again!
So the current firmware for your ROM is DS1E.

This has been an excellent drive for me. New firmware will improve this drive.

But If there is a problem after update a firmware, Can I reverse it back by downloading and installing the old one?
