I was able to backup this DVD using RI4M all by itself and DVD Decrypter. I never started AnyDVD or DVD region free.
Try cleaning the DVD.
You know actually I just finished it successfully using the latest RipIt4Me, hehe. Thanks for the help anyways though.

On a side note. Is it normal for DVD burners to eventually give out from too much burning and/or ripping? I had to buy a new dvd burner because it stopped burning discs unless I restarted my computer before every try. My new burner has just started doing the same thing now too and it's a totally different brand from the last. Oh well, hehe
Your DVD burner issues may have been solved by upgrading your Firmware before purchasing a new DVD burner.

Nah I tried that. The new burner was a gift anyways so it's all good. :)

Was just wondering if this kind of thing is normal.

I bought another one and it has been used 100's of times as well. Both are still going strong. Liteon is about the only brand I will buy since I have never had problems with them. And for the price, they can't be beat IMO.

its actually best if you restart your computer everytime you do a sucessful burn, especially if you have under 1gb of RAM, saves on frisbees

Where did you get that malarkay? For 1st 2 years I burned with 256mb ram and then moved to 512mb last year, which I presently have. I NEVER restart after a burn and I almost NEVER make frisbies.

why can't anyone see Why people are having trouble. If I was the publisher this is exactly what I would want everyone confused!! I back up my movies all the time but this one is giving me trouble too. As soon as it gets in the drive the drive light goes nuts, and every time i try to open the disk (finder included). I'm getting the erros in clone. I check ANY again and the drives are disabled now!!!. Shrink shuts, dvdfam askes me for some bullshit IFO info before doing nothing. ah maybe i'll do some updates and if that don't work I download a pirated copy off a torrent and call it a fuckin day! What a waste of time.

Stranger Than Fiction (R1 Widescreen) has executables!
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS TITLE!
Sony is cruising on the edge of their customers tolerance once again!
Yes - this title has a slew of nonsense ifo commands, and vts files.
But - what is unforgiveable is that this title also has autorun executables in it.
For all those poor shnooks who still have autorun enabled on their computers - Sony is now mucking around doing whatever it feels like!
My Lite-On sata dvd drive says it is a non-standard disc format and refuses to read it or play it in any standard run of the mill dvd player program.
Is this a Sony or Lite-On problem? I do not know. Nor do I care since other Sony titles as recent as "Marie Antoinette" read and play just fine in this drive.
Avoid this title. Do not buy it.
Do not rent it.
If you've already purchased it or rented it - bring it back.
If you have a dvd drive which refuses to see it - complain to the drive manufacturer about that - threaten to return the dvd drive - and bring the dvd back right away!
That is what I am doing with it!

It's Sony Arccos junk. Notice the "83 bad sector protections"? That's not up to par with what's accepted as normal dvd standards. Sony apparently doesn't recognize what a standard is. And the stuff that Sony is producing should be playable on any drive with the stamp "dvd-rom" on it. And that isn't the case, anymore. What Sony is doing is pretty disgusting.

Well I updated RIFM and it worked, but remember I said My Drive Light went nuts, AnyDVD was disabled, noone would let me in "access denided" AND when i did RIFM it asked me to set my region code! Now my question is "Did this corporation just do permanent damage to my PC!" I guess $600 for a 60 gb hd (ps3) is not low down dirty enough.

same here; with both of my drives.
I've got a Lite-On SOHW-1635S, and a Lite-On SHD-16P1S.

When I initially put the disc in, some Sony crap popped up (looked like some kind of media player), and I closed it, but then couldn't get DVD Shrink to see the disc w/ AnyDVD running in the background. I rebooted, and now nothing sees the disc EXCEPT for AnyDVD (ver 6.0.9.6), and nothing happens, except for the drive going nuts.

The obnoxious thing is that I stuck it in my media player box that has no burner or burning software, and it played just fine.
I suspect that Sony might have installed some malware.

I should also mention that I have autorun disabled...grr...it should never have been allowed to autorun in the first place.

Ok...restarted with the disc in the drive this time, and windows explorer

saw the disc. However, DVD Shrink & DVD Decryptor still wouldn't see the

disc.

RI4M seemed to work, but the DVD Decryptor rip was reading extremely slowly,

so I swapped the disc to my other drive. But....Windows Explorer still

showed the disc in D: (DVD-RW), even though I put it in E: (DVD-ROM), and again every program read no disc in any drive.

Restarted again, this time w/ disc in drive E:, and as expected, windows

explorer sees the disc in E:, and RI4M worked again.
This drive is a little newer, and seemed to read a little faster,

though still it was still very slow.

At any rate, I've got DVD Shrink making an image for me now.

Thanks for the tip on RipIt4Me!
Must try the latest version of CloneDVD; between all the shit that RI4M had to do, plus the DVD Shrink process, and then the DVD Decryptor write process, it's probably going to take 1.5 hours in total, which is pretty ridiculous...damn sony.

I recently put the "Stranger than Fiction" DVD into my computer. I had never disabled autorun before so the disc opened a window, which I was not interested in, so I promptly closed the window. Whenever I opened any program to access this DVD it either would not recognize it, or it would report some type of error. I gave up, removed the DVD and went about my business. This morning when I turned my computer on the DVD door popped out and every time I pushed the button to have it go back in, it just pops out again and refuses to stay in. I threw a few discs in it to see if it just wanted to have something to read in order to stay in... But it just popped out again. As far as I can tell, the rest of the computer is working fine, but it seems that this movie has wrecked my DVD drive, or at least the settings that control the DVD drive? A search online revealed this thread which showed that there seems to be many problems with this DVD so it seemed a good place to ask if anyone here experienced a similar problem and/or know how to remedy this awkward situation with my DVD player?

Oh yeah, the DVD player is a Lite-On LH-16W 16X Internal.

Thanks in advance,

Erick

Sorry, false alarm. I continued to play around with the DVD drive after I wrote the original post... reinstall drivers, reseeded the cables a couple of restarts. Then with the front of the server removed I noticed that the front panel of the DVD drive was slightly ajar. clicked it back into place and, voila, door shuts. I'll blame it on the wife as she was using the computer after I gave up on that DVD, but I'm truly mystified how that panel became dislodged?!? I have now put a disc in the drive and can confirm that it is working again. At least one good thing came out of this as I went about learning how to disable the auto-run... have never liked how discs sometimes had a mind of their own before!

Thanks again,

Erick

All other software failed me, except DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.9.6 then ImgBurn 2.3.0.0
It backed like a charm!
Just decrypt to your hard drive then burn to dvd.

Afternoon people. Got an answer for Stranger than fiction and any other Sony Encrypted DVD. downloaded AnyDVD6.1.6.0 and it ripped straight through the encryption and even rebuilt the DVD structure. I then ran it through good old DVD Shrink then used Nero to burn it.End result perfectly backed up DVD.
