Odd problem involving HDD, discs and MCs

I haven't modchipped my PS2 (a -30001 version); all I've done physically is make it slide tool capable. Up until yesterday everything was working perfectly. This evening I turned it on and the following odd things have happened:

1) The HDD no longer appears in the icon list of devices in the basic PS2 browser. However, the HDD is functioning and uLauncher and HDLoader recognize it; games will play just fine. It just isn't visible in the PS2 browser.
2) My PS2 memory card, which previously identified itself in the PS2 browser as Memory Card (PS2) (8MB) or something of the sort no longer gives the size: it just has Memory Card (PS2) now. (I think "memory card" may be the wrong name, but I'm not in front of the PS2 right now. Either way, that part of the name hasn't changed.)
3) The PS2 on bootup goes straight to the browser; it doesn't give the Browser / System Information menu that should be the first thing I see. The PS1 disc I use to boot uLauncher doesn't interrupt the PS2 boot sequence, either; I always get the browser. Even so, I can move down to the PS1 disc and load it up from there without difficulty.

I haven't lost any functionality whatsoever... but the interface is wonky (#1 and #2 above) and discs no longer interrupt the boot sequence. Has anyone seen this before? Any solutions? Or do I just have to live with it and hope that nothing else goes weird?
