how do I burn wii iso

Hi. I got my wii modded a year ago and have been burning games, using nero, 4x, on Verbatim dvd-r and haven't had any problems at all. My cousin just took his wii to the same shop to get it modded and some of my games work on his and some don't.
The game that the shop gave him DOES work, so the shop owner told me that differnet wii's get different chips and that my burning method is the problem. (The shop owner is not much help so far... prob 'cause he would rather me buy back-ups from him). So now I tried burning one of the games using Imgburn at 1x and 4x (so far) and I'm still getting the same error msg.
Our wii's are NTSC, but I don't know what mod chips are in them.
My question is: Do I need to find out what mod chips were used in each of the wii's to solve my problem? Or do I just have to find a certain methodology that works for burning .iso's for his wii (and whatever chip he may have in there)?
I'm in the process of trying Imgburn at 2x times as I am writing this msg. (and they all work in mine)

Oh yeah.. his has the new 3.4 update and mine does not. Could that be the problem?

I was checking on info to make my own raw dumps (to get rid of the NTSC and PAL issues) and previously you have had to get a LG burner of certain type... 8164 I believe...
There is a 'new' program out there that now says you can copy and play dvds on a unmodded system and using any dvd drive. Is anyone familiar with a game copy pro? And can it actually do what they claim? I have my doubts... they do mention playing on PC in a few of the ads but I bought a Wii to play on a Wii.
I am using torrent isos with image burn at 1x on an LG GSA-H22L drive and it works OK on WiiKey. I do get the odd coaster still, about 1 in 4 won't read... I just reburn and usually works on the second try. (My Wii has update 3.2)

Hi! i juz got my Wii last week. I want to try to burn some wii game which i had downloaded, try to burn into dvd using Imgburn, suscessfully burn but when i play it in Wii it does work. Can anyone help me?

xinen26: you need a modchip to play wii "backups". You can install it yourself, or have it installed by a "professional"

Softmods suck: they are very hard to install, can brick your wii and you can't update the firmware cause they ban the softmods in each new release.
AFAIK the current softmod(s) aren't even compatible with the latest firmware.

Hey,
I understand you need an LG drive to take the image of the Wii disk, what about burning the ISO? Do you still need one of the LG drives? Or can you use any DVD writer?

pintofegg: you can use any dvd writer to write the dvd. Just make sure you use high-quality dvds (Verbatim seems to work well. I use Philips and never had any problems with them).
Also burn the iso at 2x or 4x, this seems to work best.

The 'new' game copy pro states you can make backups of originals in a few minutes using their new software using your existing equipment...
Anyone familiar with this prog?

I have an ISO file saved on my hard drive. I tried using both Imgburn and Nero to burn it on to DVD-RW. I got a message saying "process completed successfully". However, When I checked the burnt disk. It was blank. File size is 0 byte. Of course, Wii will not read it. I did check, made sure it's in "write" mode. Not in "test" mode. I have tried many times with different ISO's. Someone please help!!!!!!! What did I wrong.

boli1021: It's normal that a PC can't read a WII disc. The disc just looks empty, although it isn't.
First of all: is your wii modded? (modchip or softmod)
Second: What speed did you burn the dvd at?
Thirs: What brand of dvd-r did you use?

Like I said in the other post, burning to RW's has NEVER worked for me, despite the brand. Do yourself a favor and get some Verbatim -R's.

Yeah, RWs rarely work. It depends on the modchip. Mine supports it (D2Pro), although I haven't tried to write on an RW yet.

I updated the firmware for my DVD burner, even tried another burner (Sony). Bought DVD-R(Memorex, couldn't find Verbatim at my local store). I used Wiu to patch my ISO file. Still no luck. I used Gecko OS to load the burnt DVD. Always got an error saying "No DVD". So frustrated. !!:(

Hi Boli,
Just a few stupid questions here. which chip does your Wii have and which game are you burning?
Also the iso filesize MUST be 4,589,824.
I use imageburn and set it to burn at 1x and it reads OK on my WiiKey.
Is your destination set for the DVD drive? Also do you see the info on the right hand side of the ImgBurn screen.. should have info on your media that it is about to write to.
I always turn verify on - make sure test mode is turned off.
Wii games are MODE1/2048 and usually 4,699,979,766 bytes in the info on the left side of ImgBurn.

Thanks. I finally figured it out. The disk actually burnt ok. It was the Geocko OS I used. I used softmod with Twilight hack. I use Backup Launcher now. It works fine. It all might seem stupid to all you pros. Anyway, thanks for all the advices. One more question. If a game requires newer version of firmware to play. What should I do? I am sure simple updating is not the answer.

Firmware updates should be OK except sometimes it wrecks your homebrew channel. I have updated to 3.2 and use Whizzle Dizzle Shizzle to remove all updates from my iso files. You can also downgrade your firmware later if you find it made more of a mess than it was worth but that involves a lot of hocus pocus and a good chance you may end up with a white bookend instead of a Wii afterwards.
Just make sure you only update your firmware with the same region game as your console. Do not use a PAL game to update a US console and vica versa or you may end up making a nice white brick with your machine. There are unbrick downloads around but its best not to have the need for them.
I am too dense for using softmods so I said bye bye to my warranty and got someone to put in a WiiKey. The only drawback is when I get a PAL iso it usually takes 2-3 DVDs to get it to work on the machine, if at all.
One final question - is there a PAL to NTSC program for GameCube isos or do you have to use multi to get a PAL game to work?

Oh, and I use Maxell DVD-R without a problem on Wii iso. A 100 disc spindle cost like 30 bucks, or even less if you catch a sale at Future Shop... I have a LG GSA-H22L for burning but no reader, maybe one day...

contrary to popular beleif, the burner you use can have an effect.
i was using an older AOPEN burner and getting about 50% that would work, i upgraded my burner to a newer PIONEER, using the same discs, and get about 1-2 fails per 100 spindle.

Of course, you're absolutely right. This is the same for CD-Rs. I've had quite a few burners, and some generate better results (more compatible) than others.
I do think however that this is the last step that should be checked. First make sure modchip works, that you use good media and correct speed. If you still get alot of coasters, you should certainly consider upgrading your dvd-r.
