I have used DVD Shrink and Nero 6 successfully for a long time and I am now having problems burning video DVDs. I suspect it's a hardware rather than a software problem but I would like someone who is much smarter than I am to look at the error log file before I spend the day on the phone with Dell. I am using Sony DVD-R (or RW) - they are 1-16X and I even tried setting the Nero burn speed at 8X thinking that might be the problem but no luck. I even restored my computer to factory setting so everything is clean and brand-new and that hasn't helped either. Here's my error log file - thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know about being smarter, but I've had my fair share of issues. Normally, the first thing to look for with errors is the media type. While TY and Verbatims seem to be the best, Sonys are not that bad either when compared to others on the market. Therefore, the first thing I would try to do is defrag my HDD and clean my machine, try ccleaner.

Give that a go first and see if that clears up the problem. Shrink is notorious for not performing well on a fragmented HDD.

Thank you for responding but, as I stated above, I restored my computer to the original factory settings so I got rid of all the crap that was on there. So, I think there's some other problem.

Ok....sorry about that. By restore, I implied you performed a system restore using Windows restore points. You obviously did more than that, so your machine is probably clean. I would still analyze my HDD to see if it's fragmented or not, if you haven't already. Solving burn issues is a step-by-step process and sometimes the easiest thing is looked over.
Another option is to try backup in another program, such as DVDClone. It's not free, but you should have a 21 day free trial. If that works, then it may be your current programs and not a hardware problem. You can find Clone here: http://slysoft.com

What media were you using before? Use nero's infotool and find the MID codes of some of your older backups.
16x sony media: Sony 16D1 is the taiwanese sony -1x-16x.Decent media.
Taiyo yuden also makes these discs for sony,but they'll say made in japan on the wrapper and code as Ty-G03.
Lots of drives are having issues with the sony MID codes for the 1x-16x speed-usually firmware issue.The burner doesn't know how to properly burn this media.
Your burner is an LG GWA-4164B drive with the current firmware version of E113-oem. This is the latest firmware that I know of,according to the info from that burn log. Here's a link you can bookmark it to your favorites to keep an eye for future updates. This drive also has a different firmware from dell-if it came bundled with your pc,you'll see it in this link:

Another scenario is a bad batch of media,or a bad section in your spindle.Looks like Try a disc from around the bottom if it's in a spindle of 50 or 100. Burn this disc at 4x and see what happens.
At least it looks like it's trying to burn.Usually major firmware issues ,you'd get an Illegal disc error in that log.
