Hi all, I have scoured the cursed net looking for this question and even better the answer to this question. I recently got a eurovox m3 from the uk, after trying it with ntl basic in Dublin, it doesnt work. does a full power scan but cant find a single channel. Has anyone any idea if any modification or change has to be done to the box for it to work in ireland? cheers for any input!

Isn't NTL in Dublin on MMDS? A cable box won't work.

Hi again guys,
ok so i received the new box and it seems to do virtually the same as the old one.
Does anyone know if there are any internal tweaks to be done for it to work in Ire?
Please PM me if you wish to keep any info discrete.
Thanks again!!

Do you get NTL mmds via mmds aerial or central mmds mast?

I know what mmds is.
You should know if you have a mmds aerial on the roof or if there is a mmds mast around the corner.

If you get analogue channels from a NTL feed its true cable.
Set the symbol rate to 6887 for scanning.

Delete all channels by going into channels menu. Then AUTO SCAN it by using red button in INSTALLATION MENU.
OR may be your cable connection is not properly fixed (Check all your cables physicall connections) Once you physically checked it then check it with your box on as
Best thing to check if your cable is ok or dead is to follow the steps below
Turn on your euromax
Press MENU
Go on to INSTALLATION
press user installation
enter your pin which is 0000
Now on next screen right in the middle a bar says
QUALITY and it moves turns green and red
If yours turns green and stays green that means your cable connection is right and you can watch channels, if it stays red that means you either got a loose connection or ah wait a minute (make sure your cable input behind box is in top right slot)
If its green then follow instructions on the top

Hi guys, I got it working, eventually. I cleared all chanels and then done a factory reset (to 6887- i have the red box) straight afterwards. For some reason they needed to be done together.
The scanning (Power scan) is terrible and have found the best way to insert freqs manually, ( frequencies I got from a nearby friend).
Thanks for all the input!

Just for future refernce I don't think anywhere in dublin is true cable. You have to check your local area by yourself.
Btw. NTL mmds is functional with cable boxes but the scan of the not so good boxes has problems.

what exactly do you mean by true cable.i dont know of anyone who gets ntl through mmds it all comes normally.i thought the whole purpose of mmds was to allow rural customers to get digital tv cause they have no regular cable areas

You can get mmds via a aerial on the roof or a central mmds mast.
In some areas in Dublin, Waterford and Galway there is a central mmds mast for NTL installed and the blokes around get their signal from that mast.
True cable means the cable feed is connected to a cable headend and not to a mmds mast or aerial on the roof.
In some Chorus areas there is also a central mmds mast for Chorus mmds installed but thats a other story.

The only reason MMDS was introduced was to stop the spread of people watching cable without subscription in the analogue days with a "black box" addon. Therefore it's pretty limited in amount of channels it can carry. The CC's claimed it was to let rural areas enjoy cable at the least cost to the CC, but we know the truth!!

True cable and mmds are simply different transport methods for the signal, thats all.
Its the decision of the provider which one to use in a local area.
Analog NTL mmds was shutdown and the free space was used for additional digital channels. A handfull channels are not availabel via NTL mmds compared with NTL true cable.
The major problem is the scan with NTL mmds. Some boxes are not able to handle the slightly different frequency scheme.
Chorus mmds is a complete other story.
