Confusion about the new firmwares...

hey i am new to the whole psp thing, right now i am in a situation which i need some help on. one of my friends can sell me a brand new psp and my other friend can sell me his 1.5 psp. Now i am leaning towards the 1.5 because i heard it can play downloaded games.. but recently ive done some research and saw this firmware that hacked the latest version made by DARK ALEX and it supposeedly can do EVERYTHING a 1.5 can do and more. I want to know if this is true and if so can i have the link. And also i know that downgrading has a risk of bricking your psp, is there a risk to upgrading your psp too? and is there anything i should watch out for like a certain motherboard that wont allow me to edit the psp firmware and stuff or a certain version.

Well i say buy whichever one is cheaper but make sure the psp that doesnt already have 1.5 fw does not have a firmware over 3.03 because there is not a downgrader for 3.10 i think. Yes u can play downloaded games on 1.5 and the dark alex thing you talk about is firmware 3.03/3.10 OE-X(x=a,b,c?) which is a custom firmware released by darkalex which lets u play iso's ps1 games and such. but to get to use custom firmware you must upgrade from a 1.5 psp. and make sure that the psp that is not 1.5 doesnt have a firmware over 2.71 if it does have over 2.71 youll need to find/buy yourself an unpatched version of gta liberty city stories to downgrade.

they are either the same price or the 1.5 will be like 20-30 bucks more.. so what your trying to say is that if i do get the brand new psp, make sure its not 2.71 and anything over 3.03, if so, then if i got one that is a 3.03, do i have to downgrade to 1.5 and then go to the 3.03/3.10 OE-X(x=a,b,c?) or can i just upgrade it to 3.03/3.10 OE-X(x=a,b,c?) from 3.03

its like this...
-any version below 2.80 is relatively easy to downgrade to 1.5
-version 2.81-3.03 can be downgraded but will require an UNPATCHED GTA: Liberty City Stories(a bit of a hassle to look for this game)
-anything above 3.03 = no way yet
-to keep things simple, yes, you need to downgrade to 1.5 to upgrade to custom firmwares (e.g. 3.03 oe-c...)

lol...touching the flash period is a risk...but once you get OE-C running, none of it will matter.
