I would like to back up some of my games but I am not shure which route to go. I dont have all the technical know how to update the firmeware myself but I do know someone that is installing Duox2 Modchips into 360's. So my question is what is the difference between a mod chip and updating firmware? Do they both discontinue the warranty? If updating the firmware voids the warranty, how would they know if Ive done it? Thnx for the help...

if you want to play the game, then you must pay to play right?

So, YES, any mod or firmware flash will void the warranty with Microsoft unless you can remove the warranty sticker perfectly.

modchip => expensive and it usually crap out. it does the same job as firmware flash

firmware flash => free and works well, all you need to do is read and search on how to flash your firmware. the answers are all over this forum.
