Alright, so I've been reading everything I can find and I think this should work. Feel free to enlighten me if you disagree.
Boot with SwapMagic disk. Have HDAdvance ISO loaded onto USB flash drive via USBAdvance. Run HDAdvance through USBAdvance menu. Run backed up games on HD from HDAdvance window.
Seems like a minimum of fuss to me. Will it work?

I have a version 4 (fat) PS2. All I'm really trying to do is be able to run the actual games from onboard IDE HDD without having to swap any disks or anything like that.

a few elfs there that may help
so if u follow the tut on page 107, and put like HDloader or uLaunchElf on the usb stick, and get swap magic to load the elf off the usb pen, the elf then should load the games off the IDE hdd.
so i need just 1 swap magic disc, 1 usb pen w/elf's.
no swapping countless discs.
is that what u were afetr ?

Ah, so what I really need to do is skip the USB step, use the hdloader ELF and put THAT in the swapmagic folder on my USB drive?
Will swapmagic run things in a swapmagic folder on an internal IDE drive?

What i thought to do is, buy the PS2 SLide tool with swap magic 3.6, or just use the disk and a knife, download a copy of HDAdvance.iso and copy this to DVD its easy to find.
Then use the SLide tool/knife as normal but instead of booting the game up, boot the HDAdvance disk up, using the network adapter and a IDE HDD, maybe this can play games from the HDD too.

I'm just trying to be lazy and avoid having to use the slide tool or swap discs.

I'm not too experienced with this but, if you can get HDAdvance to work of a USB stick and you have the network adapter (FAT PS2) connected to a IDE HDD, it should work shouldn't it? just try it anyway what else can you lose and tell us if it works!

Hi all.
I've just got hold of a copy of H/D loader. I have a new slimline ps2. Is there away of connecting a H/Drive to it?
I like the idea of using the usb pen to load the loader prog. I wonder if this could be done also??
Cheers.

Update: got my network adapter installed with a 120gb WD drive (had to unscrew some stuff to get the plugs to fit properly).
HDloader will start just fine from a USB flash drive. I formatted the drive in Windows to FAT32 and then made a SWAPMAGIC folder, put the hdloader .elf in the folder and renamed it to SWAPMAGIC.elf
With the swap magic disc in the ps2 and the usb drive plugged in, it will boot straight into HDloader.
