I have one of the new Hitachi 0079FK drives (manufactured January 2007) and was wandering if anyone knew when the firmware patch will be released.

It took 3-4 months before a firmware for the Hitachi 0078FK was released , so I wouldn't hold my breath.

the new philips drive is among the top of the list with this to get a hacked firmware right now, so hopefully it wont be too much longer

It's only 1 byte difference that won't allow FWtoolbox 3.0 to correctly dump/flash a 0079FK. The creator of the program is aware of it and already has an updated FWToolbox but hasn't yet released it to the public.

It is true and will be addressed in the next update of FWToolbox. People ask me how I know stuff with computers all the time and most of the time I can only tell them "I don't know how I know" but on this case, I read about it from the author of FWToolbox himself.
