I need some help updating from 2.50 to 2.71

I found a 2.71 update (8046_EBOOT.PBP) and I saved it to my pc. Then I made an UPDATE folder under the GAME folder on my memory stick. Next I restarted my PSP and went to the Game icon under memory stick and there is no file there? Any suggestions or tips? Anything will help. I want to downgrade to 1.50 to get the new 3.10 firmware.

Is yours a TA-082? and try renaming the eboot to EBOOT.PBP without the 8046 and so.

Yeah, I checked it for the code in the UMD drive. There is no writing there. So I guess it's not a TA-082. I also tried to change the name from 8046_EBOOT.PBP to EBOOT.PBP. No go. What about changing the name to UDPATE.PBP. I think I saw that somewhere in all my research.
