First off, I want to let everyone know that I've tried the standard scanning tools (ad aware, Spybot s&d, trend micro, ccleaner etc..)

My computer will get extremely sluggish out of the blue, one second it will be fine and the next, it will take minutes just to open programs. Below is a hijack this log, can someone please run through it and tell me anything that i can take off? it would be greatly appreciated.

by the way, right at the top i see some AVG entries... i use sophos antivirus so would it be cool if i disabled that?
I use sophos antivirus & ZoneAlarm firewall i would like it if anything not necessary is not running.

Nothing bad in your log as far as malware goes.

Run HijackThis. Click the Misc Tools button. Click the Uninstall Manager button. Then the Save List button.

Save the list to your Desktop.

Copy/paste the contents of that list in your reply.

You can uninstall it if you want though.

You should also uninstall:

ewido anti-malware - Old version of the program and has been since bought out by AVG. You can download and install the new version of it from here:

http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/set...up-7.5.0.50.exe

And uninstall:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Reboot when done.

Once back in Windows go here:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 and click the Download button.

Click the radial button beside Accept License Agreement... the page will refresh.

Then click the link for the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and install the newest version of Java.

Post a new HijackThis log when done.

Another question.. I just got a notebook and am giving this computer to my mom. Should i do a complete clean install of XP and install all necessary updates or give it to her like it is. It should be good the way it is right? It seems to be running much better now too by the way :)

I'll have to think on the clean install. It takes so long to do everything and the computer seems to be running pretty smoothly now. Do you think there is special reason to do the clean install?
