Ok, I am trying to SHRINK South Park Season 2 Disc 1. As it is just about to finish "analysing" at 97% I get a little message window saying, "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" Please, does anyone know what this means and if so, is there a way around this error? Please, please help me!

In a nutshell, it is an error due to encryption. You need to use another program with Shrink to work around it. Shrink is a good program to use, but it is not updated anymore, therefore it will not handle newer movies and their encryptions. Here are a few to try:

RipIt4Me http://www.ripit4me.org (free!)

DVDFab Decrypter http://dvdidle.com (free!)

AnyDVD http://slysoft.com (not free, but has 21 day free trial)

Here is a good thread to read to set up and use these programs: http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/

It can also mean a dirty/scratched/bad press.

For the one your doing butters81 I'm leaning towards the dirty/scratched disc part. I did these season a few years ago probably just w/ Shrink.

Is this the only disc in the series that you have this problem?

Try cleaning the disc off w/ something non abrasive and in a non circular motion.

Have another drive you can try it on? Some drives are better than others at ripping bad spots.

Use the link too from FFsp42 - DVDFAbDecrypter is also a better ripper along w/ decrypter.
