UPC Ireland, which owns the cable television providers NTL and Chorus, has re-launched its Chorus digital TV service, and is investing over ?300m in its networks.
The company, which is now also the second-biggest broadband provider in Ireland, said the completion of the integration of the Chorus networks with the existing NTL networks will enable it to offer over 100 digital channels to cable customers in Cork, Limerick, Swords and Malahide areas in Dublin.
It says the completion of the Sligo and Roscommon MMDS upgrade means that digital TV is now also available in all NTL & Chorus MMDS areas.
AdvertisementMMDS stands for Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service, and it allows ntl to provide a TV signal to customers within its franchise area, but not part of its cable network.
Mark Coan, Marketing Director of UPC Ireland, said: 'We are investing over ?300 million in our networks to improve all our products and services.'
Currently you can get only around 65 digital TV channels via chorus.
It looks like UPC higher the amount of channels in ex chorus networks to the NTL standard.
For chorus mmds means that shutdown of analogue mmds.
