I would just like to clear something up contrary to the threads that have been posted (myself included)
DVD X Copy is a very good program, and does what it is supposed to do very well. it is expensive, but is a true one click solution to backing up your DVD's. Its a great tool for those who are:
a). Lazy
b). Not technically gifted in anyway!
Dont dish it without first trying it and remember that just because you personally dont like it doesnt mean it isnt good. I hate it, but i understand that it is good. I really shouldnt say it is crap all the time since it isnt. :-)

Unless of course the backups don't work in your stand alone DVD player. (like most RCA's)
That's what gave it the high rating on the "Ken's Carp Factor Scale."

Yeah, mine's a '98 or so.... I have all kinds of success with any burning program except DVDXcopy. I've talked to others on this board and it seems even the newer RCA's don't work with it either. I think the exact quote was "we are aware of this issue and we do not have a resolution at this time." They will at least give you your money back.

Oriphus is right. Although I would not tell any one to use dvdxcopy. It is perfect for people who do not understand or want to spend the time learing how to use all of these programs. For example Nero is $80.00 and is a nice program but there is also a learning curve assoicated plus the time to learn other programs because Nero only does half the job. For 20 more dollars you can get a one-click solution

If DVD X is a one-click copy utility, does it copy everything by default, or can you still edit out extras to retain video quality? Their ad shows Lord of the Rings, which is a long movie. Would it produce a better picture copy than DVD Shrink partnered with Nero?

Are you using the DVD Shrink Beta? How much compression did you have to use for a movie that size?

The latest DVD Srink (v3 beta 5.0) will provide the same quality as DVDXCopy Xpress for movie only onto one disc and, unlike Xpress, you can edit as you choose. DVDXCopy allows you to ommit scenes but there is no compression so most movies go on to two discs.

Discmania, you need to be carefull of which version you are talking about with DVDxCopy. The old DVDxCopy version 1.52 (last one released) that was the case, it would take a DVD and if bigger than one DVD would make it two. But after April, DVDxPress was released and it would compress the DVD to only one DVD and would stripout the special features. Now it looks like they have droped all this with the new versions and DVDxPress 3 and above is called DVDxCopy. It has the same feel as DVDxPress but with the option of copying the entire DVD (resulting in 2 discs) or coping to one disc (losing special features and menus). I like DVDxCopy, it works really well. Only problems with it are with RCA standalones that I have encountered. But I don't like the interface of DVDxPress, the older DVDxCopy 1.52 tells you how it is spliting the DVD and gives you control. DVDxPress will not. I recomend DVDxCopy 1.52 for exact copies and DVDxPress for one disc solutions. But you will have more control and editing features using the free versions of Shrink and Decrypter. With that said I use DVDxCopy products most of the time and when I want to create as special DVD with slected episodes (like making a best of CD), I use the free software.

DVDxCopy is shit !!!!
There I've said it...
If ppl want an apparent one click wonder solution , then why are there all these DVDxCopy questions that pop up in Forum ?
Isn't such a wonder prog then after all is it.
I'd rather eat glass than use anything slung out by 321 Studios (my own personal opinion of course)

I hate 321 Studios software - full stop
There is numerous reasons , of which I will not be drawn into again...as I've posted why like a trillion times [perhaps 10 times ate least - lol ]
P.S. Why would I want to use it when I've always been able to back things up without..?
I'll pay $69 or $99 just to check the shit out...yeah !?!? ; )

I used, and returned, Xpress. It is good, but...don't use cheap media, do not expect to playback on a Toshiba, and be content with the movie only - no extras (which is what DVDs are frequently about!). Their techs are always working on solutions. I fought to get my refund. Do not claim the rebate if you want the refund capability.
