Have a Compaq Presario V6000 notebook, with 16X DL Burner. Had trouble with Maxell -R discs in that the burning process didn't even start.
Have now bought Verbatim +R discs which are burning fine, movie can be watched without difficulty on the notebook.
Problem is my player. Its cheap i know, but if anyone can help me identify if i can do something to make the movies work on it, I would be greatful. Player is Emerson (also marketed as Funai) Model number is CEDV90DP. Have googled without success.
It's gotta be an LG drive with the code string of HL-DT-ST and the GSA.All I can find is the GSA-4084B and no newer fw update for it.
1)Is this drive internal or external?
Here's a free program that will tell you:
Correct model# of the drive/to the right of that-it'll show you the current firmware version. It can also tell us the MID code for your blank media.
2)Insert Maxell disc into that burner drive/open up dvdidentifier/select your drive-which will show the model# and firmware version/click identify/click clipboard/paste it into your next post. Also include exact model # and current firmware version.
Maxell: Sounds like a firmware issue,if that burner isn't recognizing your blank maxell dash media. The discs should still be good if no actual burn took place.
Let us know the MID code of those Maxells. Could be Ty/MXL-which would be hitachi/Ritek/or Cmags. If they are the 16x speed, the firmware may have to be updated. There's some great maxell media, decent maxell media, and some crap maxell media. That MID code will help narrow it down.
Verbatim: This is quality media.Using verbatim, you will rule out a lot of likely culprits to your compatability issue. These are the plus format,a little harder for stand alone players when they are not booktyped.
Your burner recognizes it and plays it ok using that compaq notebook. That's what you want. After that, comes stand alone compatability. Certain players may prefer a certain format from a particular dvd burner. The el-cheapo players usually play everything. There's something about that backup that your player doesn't like, which is usually format or media quality when you get: No disc/Dirty Disc/Wrong region/Wrong format/or illegal disc display messages.
Your drive should be an LG drive. LG drives have bitsetting capability, also known as booktyping. This changes the plus format,so stand alone players and other drives think they are actual dvd-rom format, which the original discs are. It fools those picky players into playing your backups. Only the plus format, and only certain drives can booktype.
3)What programs are you using in the dvd backup process?
Some drives have their own utilities to set the booktype-Plextor,Lite-on,BenQ. Some drives,nero/dvd decrypter/and ImGburn can set the booktype. Some drives need special crossflashed/hacked firmware to achieve booktyping-Pioneer/NEC.
Please find below the DVD Identifier logs for both the blank media i have been using.
Dont know if the Maxells are good or not, but my burner did not like them at all. Burn process would not even initiate regardless of program used. This was not the case with the verbatims which started fine. Up to about $70 spent on media alone now, would love to get things working on my stand-alone.
Software used is DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15. Have also tried Nero (Ultra edition, version number for Burning ROM is 7.7.5.1)

Yeah those Maxell are CMC which are not good at all.
Quote:have burnt at 4X on both Nero and DVDShrink and still nothing.
Have u tried higher than that, those verbs u have are meant to be burnt at higher speeds, u should try 8x,
u can also post a Nero burn log too.
u can find it here
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core look for the nerohistory.txt file
Copy and paste the Last log only and dont forget to edit ur serial number out.
