Ok, as you can see I'm a "newbie", so I'm a little confused about this unlocking business. Now I'm wondering if my phone is unlocked or not. I can put my T-mobile SIM card in the phone and it accepts it, but it will not find the t-mobile network. Is this a problem of unlocking the phone? Or is there some setting that I need to change on the phone?

Your mobile is unlocked m8 but as MCCRASH pointed out the mobile will never work in the USA, due to frequency incompatibility.
