I tried burning this R5 DVD-R so it can be region-free, and nothing seems to work. I've tried DVD Shrink by copying the files to my PC and opening it with DVD shink and selecting the Region Free option, but nothing came of it. I cannot play it on my home DVD player. Can anybody help me?

What exactly do you mean when you say that? Does the DVD play in your computer? What part of the world do you live in? The disk may be region free however if you are living in the US and the original disc was region 5 then you will have a video format problem. Region 5 is eastern europe which means the original would be in PAL format and if you are in the states playing the movies then you would need NTSC format.

Yes, I live in America, which I would need it to be NTSC.

Then the video would also need to be converted from PAL to NTSC and there are several proggies that will do this. Search in the guides section here at Afterdawn.

Nero Vision in the Nero 7 suite does a good conversion job. You can use the trial version and the output isn't marked. You open the DVD in Nero Vision and the wizard like interface will lead you through. ConvertXtoDVD is another good app, but it's retail and the trial marks the output. You only use the trial on that one to see if you want to purchase the program.

You will need some type of decryption software. If you want a program to keep that's free, I'd suggest RipIt4Me. If you only need a program for this job, then a trial of DVD Region + CSS Free from DVDIdle or AnyDVD from Slysoft should work.

Did you open Nero Vision as I suggested? Use the Make DVD option then select DVD-Video. When the window opens close the Tips and select Import Disc. Like I mentioned, if you look at what's there, the program pretty much leads you through. In DVD Nero Vision compresses to DVD5 if necessary. There's also DVD1, and DVD9 (DL) for size options. That's at the bottom right at the end of the size bar.
