time s3809 and DVD Drives

I have had nothing but problems with the both DVD drives in the Time S3809 PC.
These are the Panasonic SW9581 DVD-RAM and the Atapi DVD-ROM 16xMax drives.
Latest position is that both of them will read audio CDs but neither recognises DVDs at all.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it makes no difference. The PC tells me both drives are working correctly...which they ain't. Can somebody help me configure these correctly ?
