Backups on DVD+R

Sorry, i really hate to be 'that guy'
But i've been reading a lot of different forums and everyone seems to give a different answer, or at least, when they say PS2 can read DVD+R, they might not mean for game backups.

So, i figured i'd ask here as it seems to be the pinnacle of backups etc.
I have a 75001 Serial, so v14a/14b/14c, not sure which. Anywho, i already have some DVD+Rs i was burning movies with, and they work fine for that, however: Just today my Magic Swap 3.8 'Coder' Plus came in the mail, i installed the necissary parts, it runs up to boot and all that.
I made a backup of my Disgaea:HoD(Pricey, don't want to lose it ;x), first following the directions from

under the Alchohol 120% Method, did as it said to make an .mdf, and then burned it at 8x(half disk max) with Sony DVD+R 1-16x.
When i went to boot disk >> NTSC (and it is an NTSC disk)
It just says no data on disk, So i tried burning again at minimum(4x) and maximum (16x) speeds, still no dice.
...Anyway, am i doing something wrong? or do DVD+Rs just not work to backup.

Oh erm, first time posting here so i'm not sure if theres an edit button but i wanted to add:
If PS2 cannot play DVD+R, what DVD-R would you recommend as far as quality while retaining thriftiness. ;3 i'm kind of cheap ;p

I read on here that the PS2 didn't like 16x dvd so much. a lot of people were having problems (including me). Try 8x Verbatim dvds and see how that works.

Go with -r verbatim. No problems yet after 150 burns. Also I use 16x with no problems.

i have a 50 spindle DVD-R verbatim 16x.i burn them and they work like a charm on my duo3 chip.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+,1.74 GHZ,1GB DDR PC3200,LG GSA-4163B,500Watts,ATI Radeon x600
PS2 v.SCPH-39001 w/ Swap Magic 3.6+FlipTop & LaunchELF Independence Exploit
Playstation 3 80GB NTSC

Your slimlin PSTwo should have no problem reading either. BUt each PS2 is different and that is why you can never get a strait answer. Media is a question there is just nop REAL answer to, people can tell you what they do all day but that doesn't give you a 100% gaurantee that it will work for you.
If your burner can booktype a DVD+R to DVD-Rom, then set it to do that and it should be just fine. If not then you may want to go with DVD-R as more systems play those. I rarely hear problems with the -R media not working (unless it is low quality)
Taiyo Yuden is a great choice if you can buy media online (Supermediastore.com) I like the 8X DVD-R Silver Thermal Laquer (premium line)
Also Verbatim discs have worked flawless for me as well as Philips. I have used Philips 8X DVD-R and Philips 16X DVD+R with great success. But my burner also booktypes them all to DVD-Rom for compatibility. There are many factors that will determine if your game works. What type of media your PS2 seems to like best, what type of media your PC burner seems to do a good job with, and the way that you burn them.

ive had more problems with DVD-R than DVD+R. i use memorex brand and +r and basiclly the the same as -r. can anyone find a logical explanation to disprove this? probably not.

yes, for one thing Memorex is not even good media to begin with. It is pretty much considered junk by most people who know anything about backing up games.
Sure, +R and -R both do the same thing, and have roughly the same compatibility rate with drives. But they are slightly different formats. And you will find more people on forums who have problems with backing up games on DVD+R then DVD-R. Personally i can use either since i can booktype the +R

i wish people would check to see what others say about the media.like if i have a doubt i either check out www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia or i ask here.i buy verbatims consistently but i always want to look for deals too.and memorex is world wide known to be crap.dvd media companies shoulld be forced to put their media id codes so consumers can see what theey're buying because that would stop outsourcing(well atleadt the bad ones)but ofcourse that wont happened.buying memorex is like buying dial up over dsl.i notice steimy always responds to the same forums as me and hes an afterdawn addict.so people PLEASE LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS HERE WHICH ARE AMAZING!thats my 2 cents

Hmmm, i looked into bitsetting a while ago as well, my PC(GT5228) nothing too fancy, (obviously)DVD+-RW drive, but it doesn't have the capability to booktype, and i as i was reading into it something was mentioned about downloading the correct firmware ;3 and i've got no clue how to go about that, so if anyone could instruct me, i'd be much obliged.
