Im trying to take an original copy of monster hunter online with a modded ps2. When DNAS does its thing it cuts off halfway and gets an error. Is it doing this because of the mod chip or somethin else?

Yes it's a modchip problem try DISABLING IT.

Im having trouble deactivating my mod-chip. Its a matrix infinity, and I still have the instructions but they arent too specific.

Turning off the infinity:
Press start from Joypad 1 until the writing "DISABLED" will appear on screen. Press once reset button. The ps2 will reset and the infinity is now disabled until ps2 turned off to standby position.

Ive been fiddling with it for like a half hour. I cant figure it out. Help would be appreciated

I don't have a Matrix infinity but it seems like this is what you have to do:
keep the "START" key pressed while booting(powering on FROM RED LIGHT TO GREEN LIGHT) you will see words "DISABLED" somewhere on the screen stating your Infinity is off now IT WILL STAY OFF UNTIL YOU PUT YOUR PS2 TO STANDBY.
