I tried to use a DVD-R that I burned last year on my DR8420E today, and nothing happened. It was as if the drive was empty. This is a disk that I burned with this very drive, and the last time I used a DVD-R on it last month, it worked fine.
I tried using a DVD movie, and it worked.
I tried using a CD-R, and it worked.
I tried using a DVD retail copy of Myst IV, and it worked.
I tried using a blank DVD-R, and it worked.
I tried every burned DVD-R I have, and none of them work.
Every single burned DVD-R I have is Memorex, and was burned WITH THIS DRIVE.
I found a new driver from 2003 online, but after I installed it, the drive still wouldn't read DVD-Rs and the driver information didn't change. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2, and I tried using System Restore to get to the earliest restore point I have, which is from two weeks ago. I haven't installed any new programs since then. After the System Restore, the drive still won't read DVD-R's. I tried some of the DVD-Rs on another computer, and they work fine. I also tried uninsalling the drive from the Device Manager, but when it reinstalled, it still wouldn't read DVD-Rs. Please, please give me some advice!
