I am just starting and i bought a Blaster 360 and Samsung SH-D162c with Kreon V.0.81.Do i need both. Sound's like the Samsung is all i need to do backups.Am i right

the samsung is what you need to make your backups along with xbox back up creator or schtrom (software used for ripping)
The blaster is used to flash your xbox, means once installed you dont have to open your xbox again.

i would keep both, yes.
The blaster will make it easy for you to flash your 360 with any updates in the future, without having to open the case each time you do it. And the SH-D162c as stated above is used with software to back up original 360 game discs to Verbatim DVD+R DL blanks.

the only reason i would even consider sending one back is this:
If you have the samsung drive in your 360, you can use the blaster 360 to back up your games. But really that is just more wear and tear on your 360 laser so i would keep them both.
