i've read lots of related info here (you people are great) but am still looking..

i have a NEC DVD+RW, and am wanting to burn some avi movies from my hard drive directly to a single DVD. (700's/600's/500's/400's X 300's)

i am new to the world of DVD's and Burn DVD 3.0 looked like it'd work.. and after 6 hours of supposed burning (Pentium2.1) my computer identified the disc as having no data on it, zero there and zero available
?? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/48132 this might explain it but it's greek to me
i used an imation DVD

so i tried my myDVD next, but the burn button is greyed out, supposedly cause it can only burn 1 hour's worth of vid.

i prefer to get the whole movie on 1 DVD so, i downloaded the demo of Nero next cuz lots here like it, but i don't know how to burn my compilation, it's greyed out.

I was hoping for some free software that can do this, but don't mind paying a few bucks (hopefully less than roxio 6 tho)

but incase there, aren't... i can't get Nero's help pages... i'm not successful trying to drop my avi movie into Video_TS folder...

Any Help Greatly Appreciated!!!!

Hey,
YOu need to firdt convert your AVI file to MPEG2 via TMPGEnc Plus (use the wizard, and if you have any troubles, check out the guide section of www.dvdrhelp.com). This program has a free 30 day trial.
Next, you have to author your MPEG2 file as a DVD title-set via something like TMPGEnc DVD Author. This program is worth every penny of something-like $50 or so....
Finally, burn to your DVDr via Nero or your favorite burning app.
GOod luck...

Prisoner, or anyone else...

I'm running out of time to burn a big load of DVD-+R's to mail to my partner :b ... i'm considering upgrading to Roxio 6 cd and DVD Creator, because i understand it can go from AVI to DVD-+R in one process.

i'm still wanting to burn movie files from my hard drive, mostly AVI and a few mpeg, and burn each to a single DVD+R (or DVD-R, whatever will work)

Will Roxio really do this... for movie files that are around 7##megs, 1.5 to 3.25 hours, and dimensions as small as 320 X 240?

HUGE Thanks for any help

jonjan

i have imation DVD+R
NEC DVD+RW drive
windowsXP
2.2Gig
256 RAM

btw, thanks Yuriv! I downloaded Nero before and realized it was over my head for now lol I'm hoping roxio or Burn DVD 3.0 will be simple enough to be at my level

Hope you have had some success.

I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to make my AVI movies. It can capture AVI or MPEG, mix them on the time line and the make AVIs, MPEGs, Stream video or write out to the DV Camera an onwards to VHS. The fianl option is to make discs. VCD, SVCD or DVD.

I am new to DVD burning as well but the process in Studio couldn't be simpler. Each disc can hold about 1 hour in top quality and automatically reduces the bitrate for you. Basically a click and go process.

The software is only about £50, or at least it was when i bought it. Well worth the money.
