I know the BenQ drive cannot be flashed yet. But are there any Samsung or Hitachi drives which are not flashable? If yes, then how do we find out which drive it is?
Please help me here. Thanks a lot.

As far as I know the Hitachi 0079FK still can't be flashed.
Although Maximus is working on Firmware Toolbox 3.1 to do it.
Don't know when it would be released.

and the new one from BenQ which i am not sure anyone has yet.
Other then that they should all be able to be flashed.
Hopefully you can get luck enough to buy one with a Samsung drive.

Great...thanks for the reply guys. I already have a 360 NTSC-J version. I am looking for a NTSC-U/PAL version. I will specifically look for Samsung drives as they are flashable and the Xtreme mod is sweet.
Also, how abt failure rates? I mean do Samsung go down faster than Hitachi or vice versa? 'Cause i have a Hitachi drive version for 4 months now and it's working like a champ (touchwood!).

Hitachi drives at least the early ones die way more than the Samsungs and Samsungs have the better firmware available. Samsungs are definitely the drives to you'd want to get if give the choice.

Hmm, yea Samungs are way better. At least their FW is solid (DVD5 games!!). I will try to get a Samsung as much as possible.
Thanks for all the help you guys!

^^Damn..i had checked the FAQ but i didn't notice it then. Sorry.
Anyway, is there anyway to determine which drive the box has without actually opening it. I don't think there is but maybe some of you know some tricks? Lol.
