hey, im new to the 360 modding and was just wondering what features you can gain from softmodding your 360? can i transfer movies from usb and keep them on xbox, play other formats than .wmp, can you set backgrounds on the dashboard, play burnt xbox games as well as 360 games, ect

It only allows you to play your backups,that's all.

basically the above is correct. It is for being able to play Xbox 360 back up games.
The 360 does have an Xbox 1 game compatibili list, so some you can play on the 360. There is only one drive right now, the Samsung, that when flashed can play regular DVD5 media (but still only games that are on the compatibility list and backed up the correct way)

As for streaming movies and TV there is Xbox Live which has movies and TV you can purchase and download. Or programs like ORB and TVersity that will allow you to play some internet TV, or stream any file you have on your PC (it will convert it to the proper format to play but you can lose a little picture quality)
