I recently switched from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro. With Windows 2000 I
was able to click on a saved image from a folder using Windows Explorer and
it would open in Internet Explorer. If I clicked on additional images they
would open into the same window of Internet Explorer thus allowing me to page
back and forth between multiple images. With Windows XP comes with Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer, I do not want to use this because instead of paging
back and forth between images I have opened from folders, it wants to page
between every image in the folder it currently has opened.

I was able to change what program opened the image file by going to the
folder options and change the association to Internet Explorer instead of
Windows Picture Viewer. This worked fine except that when I click on a saved
image from a folder it opens each addational image into a new Internet
Explore window.

I have searched the support knowledge base and could not find a solution for
this. The closest solution was
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/253788, but this was for Windows
98. It basically said to ecit the action for jpg by adding -nohome to the
application used i.e. "C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe" %1 so
that it looked like "C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe" %1
-nohome. Then under DDE use the following:
DDE Message:"file://%1",,-1,,,,,
Application: iexplore.exe
DDE Application Not Running: leave blank
Topic:WWW_OpenURL

This is also how it appears in my settings for a jpg file in Windows 2000.
However, when I do this in Windows XP it still opens the file into a new
Internet Explorer window and also produces an error message to the effect
that the file could not be found even though it did open fine in the new
window.

So my question is, can I get my image files to open into the same Internet
Explorer window with Windows XP Pro?
